Arkansas mom Michelle Duggar gives birth to 18th child

I noticed the no yelling too, and the kids don't even get loud. Sorta surreal. You came from a family of seven. Did your mom ever yell, if she did, do you still hold animosity b/c of it?

My dad traveled on business a lot but we were basically good kids for mom. I can't picture her yelling so I guess she didn't. She wasn't much of a disciplinarian, really.

She had a lot of outside interests so I guess we didn't take up all her time like Mrs. Duggar's children.

They probably have a lot of pent up anger cause none of them actually ever get any real attention from Mom and Pop. I never see all that much dishing out of attention. I mean how can one mother possibly spend a lot of one on one with any of them. She has to be doing a lot of cooking and laundry, but of course the nice little angels help with everything. TV makes everything so fake.

It really is like the family functions more like a factory other than a real family. I guess with that many kids you have to figure something out though.

That's right! Mady is the selfish brat, not Cara.

Maddy scares me sometime. She was creepy in that one show where she had that pencil and asked if she stabbed a kid with it would it be an accident. Or something like that. It was scary the way she looked with that pencil and what she asked:shock:

Bottom-center looks like me at that age, only with less hair and no glasses.

... conspiracy?

My question is do they use birth control. They definitely need to. MHO is having that many kids is obscene. It's senseless excess. Obviously they are working on a record.

The Mom says," are there too many flowers"? When they are human, yes.

Lots of people have excesses. Some people climb mountains knowing they might die. Some people take drugs. Some have children to get welfare. Some make their kids learn the family acrobat business.

The thing about the Duggars is that they are not bothering anybody and the kids appear perfectly happy and educated.

Nobody will have to go rescue them on a mountain. No one will have to be affected by their drug problem. Nobody has to pay for their children.

Either human life is a miracle or it is not.

and yet I can not imagine not having a big family, although the duggars are bigger than anything i would want, but so long as they are not on public assistance than I say more power to them

I do not understand how people willingly have only 1 kid. kind of a good idea to have a back up, ya know, in case tragedy strikes. spare parts and all. replacement model

That is what clones are for:mrgreen:

Spending fifty thousand dollars on a wedding or buying a new car every year is senseless excess. Buying children an expensive wardrobe that they're going to outgrow in six months, or a thousand dollars worth of toys they'll ignore, is a senseless excess.

Those are obscene. Having a large family, that is guaranteeing your legacy on Earth.

It's too many lives. This isn't an everyday excess.

It bothers me cause I think they're nuts. You don't know who will end up paying for their children, but I can bet they won't be paying for college educations. They are taking a gift and abusing it.

They could have had 5 or 6 if they wanted a large family.

When you are having a kid almost every year the female body does not have time to recover. It's not healthy to have this many kids.

Nobody asks Michelle how she feels, but I would bet she doesn't feel great ever. Being pregnant takes a lot out of a woman's body. Personally, and I would bet he's never asked her, Jimbob should have told Michelle years ago that they had enough kids. I'll bet he's the force behind all the kids more than she is cause most of these religions that condone the large families and the homeschooling also believe the man is the head, he's the boss, and he's the one who dictates what everybody is doing.

What do we need legacies for? Sounds rather self-centered. My grandfather had a daughter, who had a daughter, and I have two kids who may or may not have kids, so there goes the legacy. Legacies have to produce. We have no control over it.

I stand by my obscene statement. I'd say you need to pop out a kid, if you want a legacy. We should all go through it if we are determined to have it.

Having a replacement is a lot different than having this many kids. I'd bet those kids don't watch TV, they probably have very little socializing, and when they do venture out it's going to be a rude awakening, plus from being so sheltered there may be more than a couple "oddballs". Usually there are oddballs throughout a family, but this family is bound to have somebody who's not wrapped too tight.

Ya know if old Jimbob were to kick the bucket, or say they both did, what would happen? I see some form of government assistance in those kids' future. Even if they have an insurance policy, I wouldn't think they'd be investing real heavily in insurance with that many mouths to feed.

Well the thing is her doctor says she's fine and healthy and able to have babies. She's "very healthy for her age."

So nobody is telling this woman that she's overdoing it. And she realizes that Jordan may be the last. She's not saying yes or no.

If you watch the show you'll get the impression that mommy is the boss.

Can making babies even be fun for him anymore? At this point, it got to be like poking a glass of warm milk.

We should all chip in and get her husband a coupon for a free Visectomy!

It is my understanding that they follow the Quiverful movement, they are opposed to birthcontrol and view any baby as a gift from God. If she keeps having children? She is either gonna die in child birth or her body is just gonna give out one day:shock:

From what I remember from obstetrics, a woman's body requires several years to fully recover from a single childbirth. The ideal time frame is four years... of course, this varies from woman to woman. Having so many children in succession is probably lowering her life span, since it requires significant bodily resources to create a child. I doubt she cares though.

I'm not using this as a reason to say they shouldn't be having kids, just that it is still risky in the long term.

I read something about she has had trouble in past finding doctors that will agree to being her doctor because a lot of the ones she saw feel as if she was at risk and did not think she should attempt to give birth yet again. Even via a c-section.

Well obviously their fears were for not. Mrs. Duggar is fine and Jordan is fine.

So it's all just happy happy.

At least they are all by the same father which in these cases is not typical.

So ignore the medical community who says having 18 children in 20 years is significantly shortening her life span? I'm not saying its wrong to have lots of kids, but that kind of irresponsibility certainly is. If she dies giving birth that family is ****ed.

I found this on the Quiverful movement in Wikipedia;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quiverfull

I had never heard of the Quiverful movement, but I watched the program on TLC a couple times and the oldest son said they did not start having children right away after they first married. They waited at least 2 yrs before the first pregnancy, so maybe they didn't get the quiver right away.

From reading this article, even the Catholics say you should only have as many kids as you can reasonably afford. How they expect their parishioners to not have these kids is the million dollar question, but I'm thinking abstinence.
