I do sympathize with their situation. I can only imagine what it is like to be in combat, but a line has to be drawn somewhere. Personally I do not feel it is appropriate to label these contractors as civilians specifically due to the environment they are in. There should be understanding in situations like this, but first there needs to be a sound system in place to analyze it.

Imo they should be held under stricter codes of conduct than a civilian due to being in an environment where they hold every advantage over the Iraqi citizen, but with that comes exceptions for conduct while under duress. A scared civilian shooting others in New York City should be charged with manslaughter but the situation in Iraq cannot be defined by our domestic justice system. It would be more appropriate to place those contractors under the military's jurisdiction.

Look all partisan banter aside, I would accept them being held under the UCMJ rules this would prevent the nonsense against them we hear today.

They are private people in a foreign country going around shooting and killing people?
If I went to Iraq and started killing people that my government deem bad then I would certainly be a criminal in Iraq and deserve penalty.

They arrest people and resort to violence, both those things are a crime. They are a private company.. There are many incidents where blackwater people have killed Iraqis and done other horrendous acts.. They ARE criminals just for being there and doing the things they do. Actually the US government is the criminals for allowing it.

I believe Zeebra has shown his true colors: a poseur of anti-americanism that peddles specious arguments with no basis in factual support (made obviously apparent by his infantile understanding of the Geneva Conventions). It comes as no surprise that such a narrow-minded and resentful individual would spout nonsense such as "America is worse than the Nazis". You've not treated me nice, yet I kept the gloves on and still have them on.. I stand with that view. Ive tried to be as civil as I can with you guys, but then you just had to ruin this thread, so I'm prepared to take the gloves off when enough of you guys gather here to make it exciting enough for me, rather than say let me take of the gloves and have a crushing victory over just 3 or 4 of you guys in the first round. :mrgreen:
