Trump signs executive orders on coronavirus economic relief

And even now they’re refusing to offer anything that might significantly alleviate workers’ plight.

I don't know about that, I like the sound of that payroll tax holiday.

Well, yes, you're a libertarian, so cutting SSI is definitely something you want.

I'd do more than cut funding to SSI, I would either put those funds into an IRA in your name, that you managed; or I would replace all such hand-outs with a Universal Basic Income of $1,000 per adult legal resident or month.

Yeah, and that first bit has been the LP platform for more than 40 years.

How's that been working out for you?

SSI is about to bust. I won't say 'we told you so every year for the last 40 years' but we totally did :)

I've been hearing that since the 1970s, and yet it's still there. How can this be?

Trump cut Congress out is more accurate and he made sure no deal was made. He sees no reason for anyone but him to make all the decisions. He has no idea what a U.S. President is. That is news to you?

Let's face it...he wants to be seen as the "great benefactor."

And yeah...he's playing it. It will be swallowed whole by many short-sighted and shallow...and needy...people.

Gotta say, it's a smart move. Not esp. original or surprising (I called it back in April)...but why not? It's going to appeal to many.

This is the barely coherent and grammatically inept speech of a man who desperately wants to be able to claim that he "cured coronavirus."

That's it, in a nutshell. When we do get a handle on this crisis, he wants to be able to pull out footage and declare "I called it! I said use this! I said try this! I told them to do this, it was my idea!" He's just doing it with lots of stupid stuff because he doesnt want to miss an opportunity. He's afraid 'the big one' will be mentioned and he wont get credit for it.

It's all about declaring himself the savior of the cv crisis and we'll hear all about it, esp in his campaign. (Which is basically each of his press briefings these days) --- Lursa

So the bet is:
  • Run out of funds for unemployment enhancement payments of $400, by September 12th, 2020;
    [*]50% unemployment by September 12th, 2020;

You're saying both those will happen, I am saying neither of those will happen. If one item happens and the other does not, the bet is a draw. If Congress passes legislation that replaces or halts the actions of any of these 4 Executive orders exicute, the bet is off.

Loser makes a 1 year Silver Donation in the winner's name.

Deal?
1. WTF? I was not talking about the unemployment rate going to 50%, but quite obviously the unemployment insurance. How could you not understand that?

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump signed executive orders Saturday for coronavirus economic relief, upending negotiations with Congress after lawmakers failed to reach a deal on Friday.

The executive orders establish a payroll tax holiday through the end of the year for Americans earning less than $100,000 a year.

They also defer student loan payments through the end of the year; continue eviction moratoriums; and extend enhanced unemployment benefits that expired last week, but at a reduced level of $400 instead of the prior $600.

"If I'm victorious on November 3rd, I plan to forgive these taxes and make permanent cuts to the payroll tax," Trump said. "Joe Biden and the Democrats may not want that, they don't want that."

Looks like Trump got tired of Congress not getting anything done....he bypassed them

Unfortunately a president can't just bypass Congress. Tax and spending policy are the powers of congress not the president. The president was never granted any constitutional right to dictate tax policy and spending policy for unemployment benefits. So what we have seen is that Trump is trying to take over the powers of Congress and is talking about delaying the election. Sounds very worrying to me.

Well it's quite easy, you failed to say exactly what you meant. Please highlight wherethe word "insurence" is in your post:

This is how you show you're not a deal maker, and suck at trying.

In four or five weeks he'll run out of funds for the 50% reduction in unemployment he just made, and there will be evictions in the meantime because his order doesn't actually mandate that they don't go forward.

Then what? That's right, he's back to needing a deal again, with what little he put out there running out fast. And it will be happening at the beginning of early voting ballots being sent out and baked in.

I am not responsable for your poor comunication skills.

2. I make donations to Operation Kindness monthly, so no thanks.
You don't believe in what you're saying. That's fine, now we all know that your posts are just a bunch of blahblahblah.

Trump outwits the Demwits again!

It will take a while to see if any of these Executive Orders will actually take effect. They may well face court challenges. It will also take a while to determine what the ramifications are should any of them actually take effect. This poor old country mouse is content to bide his time and wait for events to actually occur before getting my knickers in a twist.

Regards, stay safe 'n well. Remember the Big 3: masks, hand washing and physical distancing.

The dems like to point out that the house has "power of the purse" but they don't point out they can't seem to come to a compromise that can get passed by Congress.

Which does not negate the Constitution.

No matter how this plays out it should expedite things. This is a good look to those who badly need the money. This makes the Democrats look bad. Perhaps this act will speed things up at minimum.

Looks like we got us a ball game!

Of course it's those 20 Republican senators that are the logjam.

But trump supporters will lay the blame on democrats, as instructed

When one discovers all the crap the Democrats were trying to pass through that had nothing to do with this pandemic, most voters would be disgusted because they learn that the Democrats are not really interested in those who are really hurting. The bill is thousands of pages long and the crap tucked in between the pages is disgusting. Some of the **** they had in that bill passed in the House included no voter ID needed, no signature verification, mail in voting in all states, and government assistance to illegals.

Trump bucked people in his own party to sign what was in those 4 EO's because they directly help the people in need at this time. There is talk that the Dems are going to challenge his EO's in court. Let them because if they do and it holds up the needed assistance Trump is willing to offer, then they will pay the consequences.

How will you react if it's Republican senators that sue?

As they say, always...

that is a change to the constitution....isnt it?

can you see the difference?

How is unilaterally authorizing tax money be spent and other taxes not be collected not change the constitution?

Neither of those things are in his enumerated powers.
