WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump signed executive orders Saturday for coronavirus economic relief, upending negotiations with Congress after lawmakers failed to reach a deal on Friday.

The executive orders establish a payroll tax holiday through the end of the year for Americans earning less than $100,000 a year.

They also defer student loan payments through the end of the year; continue eviction moratoriums; and extend enhanced unemployment benefits that expired last week, but at a reduced level of $400 instead of the prior $600.

"If I'm victorious on November 3rd, I plan to forgive these taxes and make permanent cuts to the payroll tax," Trump said. "Joe Biden and the Democrats may not want that, they don't want that."

Looks like Trump got tired of Congress not getting anything done....he bypassed them

He just got a lot of votes with this.

Will you support President Biden if he gets tired a waiting on congress to pass gun control legislation and just issues an executive order?

The dems like to point out that the house has "power of the purse" but they don't point out they can't seem to come to a compromise that can get passed by Congress.

Perhaps Biden could use this as precedent for fighting climate change. Rethuglicans in Congress won't let him bring our pollution under control? No problem!

Notice he doesn't tell ya how they will be paid for?

He just got a lot of votes with this.

No, he didn't. Nothing happened.

Trump may as well be playing with Crayola crayons in a child's coloring book.

I would have been more impressed with executive orders to faithfully execute our own at-will employment laws for unemployment compensation in our at-will employment States.

He's not a king. He can't just pass laws as if he were Congress. He doesn't know what he's doing and there's no one left around him to tell to stop acting like an idiot.

This is a fascistic and authoritarian seizure of powers that the Constitution DOES NOT give to the President and solely gives those powers to Congress.

Trump should be impeached within the next 72 hours.

Any Republican in Congress who does not scream about this power grab is enabling the fascistic siezure of power and aiding and abetting the criminal Trump.

And when a court blocks it?

This thread should be fun. We'll get to find out how many of Trump's supporters failed civics. I would reckon about 90% of them.

“ the wind blew and the **** flew.”

Trump just crapped on the board and knocked all the pieces over......

He just got a lot of votes with this.

It sure might help. People like tax cuts. Even the working poor, depending on medicaid being funded by taxes, will like the idea of more cash today, even if it is twenty bucks a paycheck, because it's too difficult to think what if I get sick next year or whatever.

Your point it well taken. Sadly, if Trump gets away with this unconstitutional seizure of power, there just may be no future president to abuse it even further.

Actually he just took a huge dump on the Constitution and wiped his ass with the original stolen from the National Archives Building.

No matter how this plays out it should expedite things. This is a good look to those who badly need the money. This makes the Democrats look bad. Perhaps this act will speed things up at minimum.

Looks like we got us a ball game!

Do you think those who are struggling to get by really care?

When one discovers all the crap the Democrats were trying to pass through that had nothing to do with this pandemic, most voters would be disgusted because they learn that the Democrats are not really interested in those who are really hurting. The bill is thousands of pages long and the crap tucked in between the pages is disgusting. Some of the **** they had in that bill passed in the House included no voter ID needed, no signature verification, mail in voting in all states, and government assistance to illegals.

Trump bucked people in his own party to sign what was in those 4 EO's because they directly help the people in need at this time. There is talk that the Dems are going to challenge his EO's in court. Let them because if they do and it holds up the needed assistance Trump is willing to offer, then they will pay the consequences.

I hope you would be good enough to explain something thing to me. I taught Government in High School for 34 years. I taught young people that Article I gave the power of legislation to the Congress. The Constitution specifies that the House pass and bill and the Senate pass the same bill and then it goes to the President for his action. The House passed the Heroes bill some three months ago?

When did the Senate pass their version of the bill?

Where does the Constitution give the Executive the power to write his own legislation?

Thank you.

So if you're stuggling, **** the constitution? Seems about par for the "conservative" course.

And how many Trump supporters are closet fascists who do not care or give a damn about what the Constitution says?

Us Government teachers care about pesky little things like the Constitution.
