A riot was declared Wednesday evening when agitators descended upon the Portland Police Bureau's East Precinct building, spray-painted over security cameras, broke a glass door with a 2x4, lit a fire using an accelerant and threw fireworks and other objects at officers,according to FOX 12 in Portland.

Police said that a truck also attempted to run over officers.

The front doors of the precinct were barricaded before the fire was started with more than 20 officers and civilian employees inside, police said, according to FOX 12.

Officers used tear gas to disperse the rioters and at least eight people were arrested.*A federal court order bars police from using tear gas unless a riot is declared.

"I believe that city staff could have died last night," Wheeler said. "I cannot and I will not tolerate that. This is not peaceful protests. This is not advocacy to advance reforms."

Rioters also vandalized and broke into Portland's Police Association Tuesday night.

Portland has faced nearly 70 nights of anti-police protests since the police custody death of George Floyd.

If I lived there I would organize a recall petition for every single elected offical who has not done everything they could to stop the violence.

You're not going to hijack my thread with that garbage. They had no business being there and police already have their hands full dealing with destructive criminals.

There is no justification for setting fire to a precinct and attempting to hold staff inside. NONE.

They all should've been shot in self-defense by the officers inside.

There likely is certainly going to be political ramifications for their handling of this. The protesting is fine and should be protected, but the rioting, assaults, arson, etc. needs to be policed.

Exactly. Use of force protocols need to be changed to respond to the threat level.

And Trump should charge both the mayor and governor for allowing this to happen.

I don't know what's going on in Portland but it sounds/looks like the work of outside agitators and accelerators...not locals, BLM or Antifa.

I saw a news clip of the mayor telling people to stop because its helping Trump to be re-elected. While there is some truth to that, its yelling that he is making that plea instead of one for safety or fairness.

Jeeze, what's with this asshole's turnaround? When his rioters were doing the same to the Federal police, he joined the demonstration.

I have no love for anyone who tries to injure or kill anyone else. The rioters can (and need to) piss the hell off. They don't represent the movement the way it should be represented. They are hijacking the cause and making people stop listening.

HOWEVER, the Oregon police are showing their true colors with stuff like that. It stands to reason they've been projecting this kind of attitude for a LONG time before we ever heard of George Floyd. That would easily explain why protestors are still out there in Portland after 60+ days in a row, when most of the rest of the country has largely settled down. They seem to be more angry than average at their local police. If we wonder why, then we see the police smashing windows and slashing tires OF THE LOCAL PRESS, it's not hard to see where the anger is coming from. It's the very definition of irony when police misconduct is observed during protests of police misconduct. The police are proving the very point the protestors are trying to make.

He doesn't give a ****. He only condemned this because he's afraid of this fueling Trump's reelection campaign. These Libturd mayors and governors don't give a **** about the rioters destroying their cities. They've shown how much blood they're willing to sacrifice just to stick it to Trump.
 
Rioters and criminals aside (and they should/will be dealt with legally), we're in one of those American moments (like back in the 60s) when people rose up and said enough is enough (in this era it's that a Black life is equal to a White life).


The whole nation will be better for it and the bad governmental employees will have to change or hide.
