Quite an interesting thing this that France and the UK let this happen, they almost have a monopoly in this market on defense equipment in Europe, with Germany strong on textiles and smaller soldier style equipment. This will definetely strengthen Europe defense capabilities and production, which have been somewhat weak despite its strength in the UK and France.. Its one step further in the long ongoing process of singlyfying European defense and an important milestone in this integration work. Perhaps we will have more and better companies like EADS, and less Thales and such, with their ability to further cooperate cross border.
