There's an entire country doing what ludin suggests.
". . . Anders Tegnell, Sweden’s chief epidemiologist, says in many ways the voluntary measures put in place in Sweden were just as effective as the complete lockdowns in other countries, and might be more sustainable."
It has failed in Sweden. They made huge sacrifices to their elderly population and also do not have the density of pops that we do. And it still wasnt successful, they just chose to sacrifice people. And they did.
Sweden’s Gamble On Coronavirus: Has It Paid Off? [Update]
How Sweden fought coronavirus, and what went wrongIn short, Sweden kept public life as “normal” as possible, the overarching theory being that there is no way to suppress the coronavirus until a vaccine is approved and widely available. As time has gone on the numbers don’t seem to have borne out this strategy, as Sweden is seeing more deaths from the virus than it might have otherwise.

In terms of infections and deaths, Sweden is still better off than the worst affected countries in Europe, but it’s faring a lot worse than neighboring countries with more similar characteristics. For example, the country currently has more than nine times as many deaths per million inhabitants as Norway.
Post all you want to dismiss these articles and others saying the same...but they chose to risk more of their citizens. Most decent Americans chose to risk finances over lives.
This is the barely coherent and grammatically inept speech of a man who desperately wants to be able to claim that he "cured coronavirus."
That's it, in a nutshell. When we do get a handle on this crisis, he wants to be able to pull out footage and declare "I called it! I said use this! I said try this! I told them to do this, it was my idea!" He's just doing it with lots of stupid stuff because he doesnt want to miss an opportunity. He's afraid 'the big one' will be mentioned and he wont get credit for it.
It's all about declaring himself the savior of the cv crisis and we'll hear all about it, esp in his campaign. (Which is basically each of his press briefings these days) --- Lursa
