LOS ANGELES (AP) — Wilford Brimley, who worked his way up from movie stunt rider to an indelible character actor who brought gruff charm, and sometimes menace, to a range of films that included “Cocoon,” “The Natural” and “The Firm,” has died. He was 85.
Brimley’s manager Lynda Bensky said the actor died Saturday morning in a Utah hospital. He was on dialysis and had several medical ailments, she said.

Wilford Brimley had been a diabetic for over 40 years, and had been recognized by the American Diabetes Association for his advocacy and efforts to make people aware of diabetes.

Rest in peace, Sir.

I like his work. Rest in peace, Wilford Brimley.

I thought he had passed much earlier. He was a soothing character unless he was playing the heavy, like in “The Firm.”

[RIP]

A wonderful talent has passed, rest in peace sir.

That’s a sign of a great actor. He could be your kind grandfather in one film, and a menacing villain in another. And do both convincingly.

85 is not bad.

RIP

That dude looked old even when I was young. 51 in Cocoon, 50 in Country and a really old looking 40 when he did guest appearances on the Waltons.

Memorable actor. One of the few who you could immediately recognize by voice, IMO.

Didn't know he was still alive. Haven't seen one of his commercials in probably a decade at least

In my head I always see him in "The Thing". RIP Mr. Diabeetus.

He looked old in 1982 in The Thing when he was 48.

After that he threw on the walrus mustache and got even older looking but more iconic.

I feel like Wilford Brimley has been 85 for the past 25 years.

Strong run, though. Great actor. RIP.

I don't get it, that guy has looked 85 for forty years. His role in Cocoon was an old man. Did he die only because a Highlander chopped off his head or something?

Met him once. He was a good man; just regular folk.

Here's Wilford Brimley at the super young age of 41 in 1976. He's practically a kid here. I'll bet he had a bastard of a time buying alcohol.

I think it's obvious what's happened here. Wilford Brimley took the head of the last immortal sometime in the 1990's and therefore started aging like a normal human being. That's why he finally died of old age.

Remember that in the Highlander universe, there's no rule for how old a person is before they become immortal. So that guy has probably been 65 years old for hundreds or even thousands of years.

Prove me wrong.

I think that picture was from the Jurassic era back when he invented the selfie.

Wilford Brimley at 36. THIRTY SIX.

He was not a great actor... always the same gruff old guy, even when he was young.
