Portland sees peaceful night of protests following withdrawal of federal troops | US news | The Guardian

The withdrawal of federal agents from frontline policing of demonstrations in downtown Portland significantly reduced tensions in the city overnight.

Protesters in support of Black Lives Matter once again rallied near the federal courthouse that became a flashpoint, and the scene of nightly battles amid the swirl of tear gas, after Donald Trump dispatched agents to end what he called anarchy in the city after weeks of demonstrations.

But in the absence of the federal officers, Thursday night's protest passed off without major incident or intervention by the police.

To the great disappointment of fascism supporters everywhere, when 45's thugs left Portland, the protests suddenly turned more peaceful.

Just as predicted by those who accused 45's thugs of being the ones to stir the pot.

Just as I thought, Trump is was responsible for the chaos.

Trump claims to be the "law and order" president, but in reality he's the "anarchy and chaos" president.

Yes the thugs are less violent when then get their way than when they don't. I will remember to tell any progressives that when the mob turns on them to stop struggling and you wont be hurt as badly. Capitulation is the key to harmony.

No, the Nazi thugs did not get their way. I guess you missed that part.

Hmm so what will Trump run on now? lol

The article points to the 'protester' taking steps not to escalate. We'll see how long that lasts, but it's a good outcome for now. It is good that the Governor finally intervened, and took the matter out of the city's hands.

I do think allowing them into the closed park was a mistake. They may have to put fence around it.

Ohhh, so Federal troops are "thugs" - unless they're fighting Russia for you?

You like big govt when it's under your control, but when it's not under your party's control, then suddenly the govt are thugs?

There would have been no need for any troops to be deployed in the first place, if the protests hadn't unleashed massive violence that destroyed property and injured people.

So your side starts the violence, then calls the responders "thugs".

This is known as politique du pire, and it was pioneered by marxists guerrillas.

Thugs? We will remember come november and vote your disgusting police state thugs out of office. Sad it takes the dreaded liberals to stand up to a federal government that has gone too far. All the second amendment folks who say they own guns to protect themselves from an overreaching government are full of crap. They all stood silent and did nothing.

Your article refers to Wednesday night, the OP article refers to Thursday night.

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown said in a statement Wednesday that the federal government had agreed to a "phased withdrawal" of federal officers from Portland.

“Phased withdrawal” does not happen over night.

Trump claims to be the "law and order" president, but in reality he's the "anarchy and chaos" president.

But you guys have to know Pres. Trump and his PR machine will :spin: the "peaceful protest" to "See, I told you I was the law and order president and I brought order from chaos" even though protests are still going on in Portland, OR. We all know the truth, however, that Pres. Trump's Storm Troopers created the chaos in the streets but he will spin the relatively peaceful protests to claim "he did that".

Wait for it...

But who capitulated to whom? It certainly wasn't the protesters. They're still out there marching the day after unidentified federal troops have left Portland.

Ohhh, so Federal troops are "thugs" -

Yes, they're acting like thugs. They're starting fights, hurting people for no reason. Fits pretty well, doesn't it?

How is it good when the presence of unidentified federal troops only escalated things? They didn't bring the city to heel as planned. If anything, THE PEOPLE came out en-mass to fight against: a) fascism; and b) a federal occupying force invading their city; and the state (Oregon) ultimately took back primary policing authority.

How do you see government tyranny as a good thing?

Yeah it had nothing to do with the fact that the Governor moved a ton of police into the area and
started actually enforcing the laws.

amazing what happens when you do that.

Portland police clear Lownsdale, Chapman Squares early Thursday | kgw.com

OMG what actually occurred.

Portland police cleared Lownsdale and Chapman Squares in downtown Portland on Thursday morning, removing occupants and breaking up the encampments that had formed in the two park spaces. The move was requested by Oregon State Police as part of the plan for federal officers to leave downtown Portland, according to Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler.

Shortly before 5:30 a.m. Thursday, Portland police tweeted that everyone in the park, including members of the media, had 10 minutes to leave. Just before 6 a.m., police tweeted that the parks had been cleared and that no arrests were made.

The area of the two parks goes from Southwest Third to Fourth avenues and from Southwest Salmon to Madison streets.

Wheeler said Portland police, Portland Parks and Recreation, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office and outreach workers collaborated on clearing Lownsdale Park.

Two people arrested while officers were securing the parks, Portland police said.

Kristina Naranja Rivera, 34, was charged with second-degree disorderly conduct and second-degree criminal mischief.

Camillo Massagli, 25, was charged with second-degree criminal mischief, second-degree trespass and interfering with a peace officer.

Trump wins again.
You should do more research into this before saying stuff.

Just as I thought, Trump is was responsible for the chaos.

Not at all the protestors were responsible and the police finally moved in and cleared all the riff raff out of the area.
The made 2 arrests of people that didn't comply and everyone else got out of dodge in a hurry when they moved in
and cleared the area like they should have done to begin with.

IN fact them doing this was 1 of the requirements of getting the federal officers out of there.

It had nothing to do with Trump but it had everything to do with the pathetic mayor and the pathetic Gov
doing their damn job that should have been done in the first place.

So, we rewarded the law breakers? How long before they demand something you're not ready to give them?

Right wing thinking: "We'll stop assaulting our citizens and ignoring the constitution, you're welcome!"

Sorry you don't have a right to burn and torch down buildings and private property or government property.
Riots are not allowed.
