Shoes thrown at Bush on Iraq trip

He should have put a grenade in it and wiped the smug look off that pricks face - especially when he joked about it afterward, claiming it was 'amusing'.

What sort of cruel mother****er finds kidnap, torture, and death amusing? That man was kidnapped and tortured. He went through unspeakable hells, his friends and family have been killed, and all Bush can say is that he was 'amused'?

**** I hate your President, America. He makes me sick to my stomach.

Wow, now i don't feel so bad about wishing the shoe hit his face tbh.

Im not exactly Bush's num 1 fan and more than one occasion i have expressed utter contempt for him but grenade? o_O

I bet the shoe thrower is a Sunni. He misses his dear Saddam.

Christians and females also prob. miss Saddam.

You see, minorities and females were protected under Saddam.
Saddam disappears and Christians are being slaughtered.

I'm not a fan of Bush in the least, but I watched that video hoping Shoe-guy got his ass-kicked for that ****.

Oh sell it somewhere else, sister! Saddam was a monster and anyone who appreciated him was a monster as well.

Why was his anger/rage so boiling that it cause him to do something like this?

Who knows? Quite frankly, I don't really care. He might be perfectly justified in throwing shoes at the President, but that doesn't change the fact that he would ALSO deserve to get his ass kicked for it.

If he was justified in it, he should take his whooping with pride.

I was completely shocked when I saw the footage. I can't believe how fast Bush acted. BOTH shoes would have hit him had he not moved. I was really disturbed by the whole scene and am thankful he didn't get hit. I thought Bush handled this situation very well.

However, it seemed to take the Secret Service too long to react, as the guy was able to throw the second shoe. I wonder if heads are going to roll as a result of this.

They sure as hell roll. Even one shoe getting thrown was frankly two much, but the fact that man wasn't jumped upon before there was even a chance for the 2nd one is just pure failure on their part.

President Bush's reaction to this situation was first class.

First, he was able to dodge the shoes with considerable adeptness. Then, he was able to shrug it off with a casual, slightly comical remark, showing it didn't shake him at all.

I have more than my share of disagreements with the President, but I give him an A for this quiz grade.

I was actually rather impressed by it, but strangely not surprised. If there's one thing this president seems good at is less serious, kind of just casual acting things. I could very easily see him shrugging and laughing off something like this. Sadly its not exactly a hugely useful trait of a President, but it has its place at times.

LOL, where's teacher when you need him with his "save the women" campaign.

Everyone, please don't take the skyscraper sized bait of Cristina, and just leave the comment be or take responses to the basement. I know it was extremely inflamatory, but similar reactions in kind back towards the poster is still a rules violation

But how could anyone have predicted that a shoe would have been thrown at him? So I am interested in why you think one shoe is enough to get the Secret Service into trouble. Talk to me, chief. ;)

I still can't believe that a Secret Service guard didn't jump in front of the President right after the first shoe was thrown? It completely baffles me.

I just need to give George Bush a round of applause for his ducking both times. Wow.

Imagine the secret service agent telling his grandkids about this.

Grampa: You know, way back in the second Bush administration, I took one for the president!
Kid: Really? Hand gun? Rifle?
Gramma: No, it was a shoe.

Lemme finish that:

Kid: Did you save his sole?

You know, it feels kind of good to see Democrats, Republicans, Liberals, Conservatives, and moderates come together and finally agree on something. Who knows, maybe in the future, after all the hubris of the last decade, historians just might write that it was a shoe that brought a divided America back together.

And yes, I agree with Christina. I wish there WAS a grenade in that shoe. Bush would have had the cockiness to throw it back and blow that mother****er up.

Damn, I am beginning to like the crap out of Bush now. LOL.

If he was able to throw a shoe, he could've been able to do a load of other things. I'm not saying they absolutely should've been able to stop the first shoe. Sometimes you just can't stop things. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't be upset that you DIDN'T stop it.

The second one was the worse offender however.

Still, this guy wasn't some trained hit man or anything. No one can tell me there weren't body clues for this. There are a lot of tells that someone is planning on doing something like this that should be visable prior to it happening of the SS was looking out and watching the crowd. Yes, it was a press core but it was in a foreign country that is less than perfectly peaceful...I don't think they should be taking anything for granted there.

Its not a huge thing, espicially the first shoe, but it is disconcerting to say the least. But yes, the 2nd shoe is the worse offender by far, as it shows slow reaction on the part of the SS in both apprehending the man, removing the President from the situation, or moving between the man and the President.

Yes, just like that Clint Eastwood movie, a Secret Service agent has to be dedicated enough to put himself between a shoe and the president. LOL.

I bet they where just standing there thinking.... "FAIL@!!@! ROFL." Then they seen him reaching for the second one and thought. "Oh ****..."

Because after the first one misses he looks like he is done assulting for a split second. Then he quickly grabs the second one off. The only way this could have even been close to an issue though is if the man was a trained assassin lying in wait with ceramic throwing knives though or something. You cannot anticipate crazy shoe huckin assholes. You got as much of a chance predicting a shoe chucker as you do some asshole that randomly throws soda on you while your walkin. But no enemies or crazy others where able to bring any deadly weapons in soooooooo, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

Iraq TV demands release of Bush shoe attacker

An Iraqi television station on Monday demanded the immediate release of one of its journalists who caused a furore when he hurled shoes at visiting US President George W. Bush.

Muntazer al-Zaidi jumped up as Bush was holding a press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki on Sunday, shouted "It is the farewell kiss, you dog" and threw two shoes at the US leader.

Bush ducked and the first shoe hit the American and Iraqi flags behind the two leaders, while the second was off target.

Al-Baghdadia television demands that the Iraqi authorities immediately release their stringer Muntadhar al-Zaidi, in line with the democracy and freedom of expression that the American authorities promised the Iraqi people," it said in a statement.

Any measures against Muntazer will be considered the acts of a dictatorial regime," it added

It would have been pretty awesome if a Secret Service agent dove in front of the second shoe. It would have been something straight from a Saturday Night Live Skit.

I would have killed to see Bush catch it and throw it back or just dive at the journalist in anger

In America freedom exists as long as you don't attempt assault with a smelly weapon.
