White House campaign urges jobless to ‘find something new’

Re: White House campaign urges jobless to ‘find something newâ€[emoji769]

....you think that, upon graduating college, I enlisted as a private first class in the Marine Corps Infantry and went to Iraq.... In order to secure my own self interests.....

Uh-huh.

I think what U.S. military personnel do is righteous, noble, and serves the Republic as a whole. It's important. It's valuable. It's necessary.

I also understand that the salary of U.S. military personnel is paid by the government and when U.S. military personnel complain about "leftists" and government spending in general they are being a little hypocritical.

Conservatives and Republicans like government spending, but only the "right" kind of government spending.

Don't confuse conservatives with Republicans.

Don't confuse conservatives with Republicans.

I don't think either of those terms has much meaning anymore, to be honest.

Uh-huh.

Everyone who joins the military does it ultimately to further their own self interests. Be it the secure, solid paycheck, healthcare, job experience, world travel, desire for adventure, the respect that comes from serving, etc. You're lying to yourself and us if you think you joined the marines for purely selfless reasons.

Second, I think you're being a little ridiculous in this thread. Nobody has insulted or degraded trade schools, you're just attacking strawmen. What was criticized is that the Trump administration is just lazily telling people to find something new while doing absolutely nothing to help Americans do that. They destroyed our economy far worse than it had to be then refuse to take any responsibility whatsoever.

Amusing.

Trump and his minions think they can just propaganda their way out of this.

What’s amazing about it?

Trump lived his whole life this way.

It makes which is probably why it's confusing you.

Oh I completely agree that it makes sense and I support it. It clears the way for the economy to be shut down all the way up until nationwide immunization so that we can properly keep the pandemic in check.

There are liberal elites, but most of us aren't in that club.

No, but you serve them, and that's the danger. It's the reason why Sanders was sidelined; he wasn't controllable. Thanks!!

There is no realistic way to shut down the economy. We could do it if we were living around eleven thousand years ago when we were hunter gatherers, but we're not now. We depend on each other's particular expertise and concomitant labor. And without that, we don't get toilet paper or our morning cereal, coffee, eggs or orange juice. We don't even get a daily fix of social media. But what we can do is make work places safer. The federal government is way to unwieldy to be up to that task, so it's up to companies and individuals - self employed or otherwise - to make work places as virus-proof as possible. Ultra-violet lights should be scanning air ducts. People should be wearing face shields and gloves and be distanced. Then, when the vaccine arrives - and that possibility is looking better every day - we can throw the face shields in the sanitized recycle bin and freely breath a sigh of relief. Thanks!!

 you could certainly say when I reenlisted that I was pursuing self interest - by then I had a family and needed a decent job, etc.

But enlisting? Nah. There were two reasons for that:

1. My country was at war and I was a young unmarried man.

2. I didn't think I was ready to be an officer.

 Perhaps you did it for your own reasons; everyone has their own story. Regardless, the claim that, somehow, conservatives are being hypocritical if they serve in the military is nonsensical. The military is one of the things conservatives generally all agree Government should do, and half the movement think we should make it bigger.

Second, I think you're being a little ridiculous in this thread. Nobody has insulted or degraded trade schools, you're just attacking strawmen. 1. You are adding in reasons that weren't given and trying to presume them. If the Trump Administration is trying to shift our current structure to make trade schools a more natural option, that's a good thing, rather than something to reflexively deride and oppose Because Trump.

2. Trump certainly refuses to take responsibility for his many, many, many screwups, but the people setting shut down policies were and are the governor's.

Reminds me of Joe Biden telling coal miners to learn to code.

 no, they aren't.

1. Conservatives are not Anarchists - complaining about the massive bloat and size of the Federal Government and wanting it to be reduced to something closer to it's Constitutional intent is not "All Government Bad". It is "It's Bad When Government Does More Than It Should".

2. When you craft that list of things Conservatives think Federal Government should do, the military is the first item on the list. In fact, there is a broad consensus across much of the Right that we have been spending too little on our military over the past decade or so.

So, even granting your formulation that one ought not work in a job field if you disagree with the federal government being in that job field (and I'm not saying that, as an independent question, I would do so), claiming that Conservatives are being hypocrites if they serve in the military is - at best - nonsensical. No one is a hypocrite if they fail to agree with everything their employer does - heck, even the self-employed don't always agree with everything their employer does [emoji13]

Conservatives and Republicans like government spending, but only the "right" kind of government spending.

Yes, there is even a special club for people who think that the government should spend money on the "right" things and not spend money on the "wrong" things: it's called Everyone, and we meet at the bar.

If I were a masochist I'd ask for a link, but I'm not a masochist so...

It was super easy for Ivanka to move from businesswoman to high powered Presidential advisor with top secret security clearance. Maybe I can try something new by using my daddy's connections to get such a job.

The poster is incorrect, Biden did not tell coal miners how to go code, just that they have the capabilities of doing so. Transcripts are available for all Youtube videos:

I come from a family where an area where
is coal mine in Scranton anybody can go
down three hundred to three thousand
feet into mind sure he'll can learn how
to program as well but we don't think of
it that way even my liberal friends know
president asked me to get Detroit out of
its problem I'm going to try my bankrupt
and he gave me authority to do whatever
I needed to do so I set up with all the
agencies what does all the money out
there Detroit could qualify for they
didn't ask for they know how to get it
didn't how to get it the end result was
not just because of me but because of
the the team I put together Detroit got
out of bankruptcy started to come back
we're able to provide everything from
street lighting for them and they didn't
know they could have to hide excuse me
intercity rail that because sixty
percent of the people had jobs out of
town but only sixty percent the people
had jobs out of town were most amar now
manufacturing jobs didn't have vehicles
to be able to get to work so we put in a
rail so anyway making long story short
things really started move that we found
out something interesting everybody when
things hit went bankrupt everybody who
had any talent in terms of technology
left black white Hispanic man women we
didn't have anybody not a joke who could
turn on the streetlights you hear me
not a joke no one who knew how to turn
on the sewer system because it requires
computer capability and programming
capability and so we went out and hired
this outfit that the major corporations
are in the needit they went out into the
neighborhoods they found 54 happened to
be all women not by intention mostly
women of color with a few exceptions
ages 24 to 20 yeah 24 to 52 or 4 they
went through a 19 week training program
and Community College they're learning
how to program and I remember telling
people is my liberal
understand you can't expect that pigment
to that give me a break
anybody can throw coal into a furnace
can learn how to program for God's sake

So the Trump response to him wrecking the economy he inherited is "walk it off"?

"Gimme a break! Anybody who can throw coal into a furnace can learn how to program for God's sake.".

1) Why would motivate him to say something like that?
and
2) does it makes sense anyway?

So what you're saying is that he's wrong, and tradesmen are too dumb to learn programming?

I just want to be clear, here.

I just want to be clear, coal mining in no ****ing way at all correlates to being able to program code---Biden is saying something idiotic.
