It would fall to the IRS, a bureau of the Treasury Department, to conduct the review that Trump described. However, federal law prohibits the IRS from targeting groups for regulatory scrutiny “based on their ideological beliefs.”

If the universities are themselves targeting people because of their political beliefs (as they are) then it’s a valid cause.

Ot is more about the threat than the IRS. Universities should not be considered public if they take taxpayer money but don’t allow competing views.

Interesting. Though the question is how exactly does he quantify indoctrination and how does he determine what isn't indoctrination. I do wonder if Liberty University will be among those under this type of scrutiny. I guess he's doubling down on his war against "the radical left".

Juggling plates!

Last week, he served the knuckle draggers a defend the statues meme, followed that up with threatening to defund public education, and now, this one. I think he may have thrown in a belated punch at Bubba in parting. But I may have my weeks mixed up.

He squeezed in a ridiculous, counterproductive and casually cruel policy on student visas, too!
 
Lois Lerner did. It wasn't a problem, then.

You can disregard this as precedent set by the Obama justice department via Lois Learner. No punishment = no crime. Coming to your world.

Our universities allow all views. Don't believe the propaganda. College students have always been liberal. It's their age, not the university. Once they get jobs, they begin the lifelong drift toward being conservative, at least in a lifestyle kinda way.

Taking tax-exempt status from a public institution is mindless. Something funded by taxes and donations is tax-exempt by definition. However, NCAA Division 1 sports is a different story.

I'd be open to a discussion on whether to tax this aspect of university activity.

No. I didn't agree with Obama's actions, but targeting right-wing groups is on another planet from targeting US universities. This isn't comparable by any stretch of the imagination. Trump is attacking all of us. Obama attacked only his enemies.
