Atlanta (CNN)Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp on Monday declared a state of emergency and activated as many as 1,000 National Guard members.

Kemp, a Republican, said the executive order follows "weeks of dramatically increased violent crime and property destruction in the City of Atlanta."
The governor's statement says more than 30 Georgians were wounded by gunfire over the extended holiday weekend, including five people who died.
One of the five deaths was that of an 8-year-old girl who was shot while riding in a car with her mother and another person. Secoriea Turner was killed Saturday night as the car tried to enter a parking lot that had illegal barricades, police said.

And to think, just a few weeks ago Keisha Lance Bottoms was waking to glowing articles about her being a potential VP pick. Now the city is in disarray, armed protestors are shooting 8 year old girls, violent crime has spiked, and she's sitting in quarantine with Covid-19. Things can turn on a dime.

The city was already in disarray weeks ago over the thug named Brooks and the irrational burning of a Wendy's by his white girlfriend. The ghetto mayor started this garbage when she fired two cops without due process and allowed those armed thugs to loiter and scare civilians. She needs to be in prison.

Did she give a damn about the 8 year old that died on her watch? Did she care about the armed thugs with barricades shooting at people simply trying to go to their homes? Did she care about the 2 cops she fired without due process? The "rival" (hardly one at all, more like an inferior) is a marxist criminal that needs to be in prison for what she's done.

Many thanks to the Governor of Georgia for calling up the National Guard. It worried me to think that the decent, law abiding people of Georgia were going to have to fend for themselves against such a ruthless, maniacal group of inhumane miscreants. Thanks!!

Gov. Brian Kemp has signed an executive order declaring a State of Emergency and authorizing the call-up of up to 1,000 National Guard troops in Georgia.

The troops will be deployed as needed to protect state buildings, including the State Capitol, the Georgia Department of Public Safety headquarters, the governor’s mansion and the Georgia World Congress Center.

i prefer my nice comfy burbs....

and one of the things i love about the south, is that most of my neighbors like me, are proponents of 2A

The miscreants just shot an eight year old. I suspect "protecting "buildings and art" may be the stated objective, but's what they are really protecting are those that reside or work in those buildings along with the citizens of Atlanta. The National Guard is not going to stand by and watch a murderous mob dispatch another eight year old without a shot being fired, believe me. Thanks!!

The Guard was called in to replace the police who have been on that detail, so the cops can get back on the street. But unfortunately, being back on the street doesn't mean they can be everywhere, every minute. That shooting happened in a moment, with no warning. Like most of them do. However, that particular protest site (across from the burned Wendy's) has been cleared. At least that's what the Mayor said was going to happen.
