ATLANTA (AP) — An 8-year-old girl was shot and killed on the Fourth of July after at least two people in a crowd of armed people opened fire on a car she was riding in near a flash point of recent protests in Atlanta, authorities said Sunday.

Police identified the girl as Secoriea Turner, and Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms called for justice during an emotional news conference Sunday with the girl’s grief-stricken mother.

The shooting happened near the Wendy’s restaurant where an African American man, Rayshard Brooks, was killed by an Atlanta police officer on June 12. The fast food outlet was later burned, and the area has since become a site for frequent demonstrations against police brutality.

The mayor shares some of the blame, as far as I’m concerned. This is why you don’t vilify your own police and just let destructive mobs go unchecked.
 
I think the mayor should resign. She's obviously incapable of enforcing law and order. And now an eight year old child?? Thanks!!

Yes, because pointing out that more children here are killed as a result of guns than any other developed country on earth is more disgusting than the death itself.

I was reading a comment by the Mayor that the majority of protests have been peaceful. Yeah? Well the vast majority of encounters with police don’t result in anyone’s death but that hasn’t stopped people from attacking all police officers.

There's a thing called personal responsibility that adults must rely on if they want to be treated like adults in a society of laws. If they are wanton murderers, then they should be treated as such, incarcerated. The Second Amendment has NOTHING to do with this child's murder. If she had been stabbed, would you have called for all knives to be registered or banned?? If she had been run over, would you be calling for all motor vehicles to be off the road?? Thanks!!
