Boston to remove statue depicting freed slave kneeling before Lincoln

The original Lincoln statue was paid for by freed slaves, but we've become so overly sensitive and irreverent towards history, that even the wishes of freed slaves don't mean anything.

Now that one Lincoln statue has come down, will the Lincoln Memorial be next? Perhaps Lincoln's image needs to be censored, after all, it's racist to give him credit for ending slavery, when black abolitionists also worked to free slaves.

The should fill in their harbor to build free houses for black people to atone for being a part of such a vile racist country as America.

Will someone explain to me why some ignoramuses would want to remove statues that remind us of how far we've come; ending slavery?

I doesn't make sense Trix because it is a learning lesson.

My guess is that people in general are ignorant. During the Civil War, approximately 360,000 Union soldiers died overwhelmingly white men for a cause they believed in. Killed in action: 110,000 Wounded: 275,200 Battle casualties totaled about 140,400. Another 224,000 non combat deaths that occurred from starvation and disease. It was abolitionist preachers and ministers some more white men that started the movement forcing recognition by all that "all men are created equal endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights" .

For decades kids in our public schools have been denied their American history. Something the Founders said was imperative to teach each generation in order for this free Republic to succeed.

Says who, you?

Are you telling me Boston stays out of national politics, that Massachusetts is a complacent state with no strong opinions about how the rest of us should run our states?

Please tell me you're kidding :lamo

Exactly right, and I'm saying what happens to our statues here in Boston is our business not yours. Your opinion that our actions are born of ignorance is ignorant in and of itself. So, mind your own business. No one here cares what you think.

Make me.

I haven't heard anyone in Boston ever say that they worry about what is publicly displayed in San Luis Obispo, CA. And if they ever do, you have my permission to tell them to mind their own business.

You live in a state that located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with dozens of other colleges and universities in the Boston area, Harvard University the most selective of the Ivy League Schools. They have a 41 BiLLION endowment. If you yahoos in Boston wanted to do something for the underprivileged in your area, you wouldn't be focused on removing a statue but rather calling on Harvard and others to open up opportunities to the underprivileged.

I see. Anything else?

Sorry, this is the United States, we are a Federalist government - one state doesn't tell the people of another state to "mind their own business" - that's absurd

What goes on in every state is everyone's business

Ha, that's funny coming from a states rights conservative. Furthermore, it's laughable regarding something like a statue.

When I say "time's change", I mean exactly what I said.

Things change. Values change. The world changes.

You can either fight it, or roll with it.

Some people have a tough time with change. But it still occurs, nonetheless.

I apologize. Your post wasn't tripe...it was trite...feel better?

Would you like a ladder to reach a bit further?

I agree with this tweeter cited in the article I linked below...She said,
"That man is not kneeling on two knees with his head bowed. He is in the act of getting up. And his head is up, not bowed, because he's looking forward to a future of freedom."

I don't have any empathy for the neurotic leftist assholes who haven't anything better to do than to convince city council leftist assholes to act on their neuroses.

Oh yeah, the figure in that statue is clearly rising up. I didn't know anyone thought otherwise!

You did not look into the history of the original monument...which would have taken less than a minute had you bothered to do so.

The one in DC has ALWAYS drawn criticism from its very beginning. The statue creator, a white man by the name of Thomas Ball, was chosen over a white woman's version that had Lincoln on top of a pillar flanked by notable freedmen of the time and freemen soldiers in uniform marching. Frederick Douglass' keynote speech at the original monument's was somewhat tepid in that he did not glorify Lincoln and reminded those attending that Lincoln was willing to let slavery exist if it meant keeping America out of a civil war. He also noted that the monument would be more "manly" and proper if the original design depicting freemen fighting for freedom under the direction of Lincoln, who gave the opportunity to do so.

See the difference?

Side note - didn't the Iron Brigade also tear down monuments they didn't like?

Hey Lurch CHOP is going down! You should have seen Hannity interview with the father of the 19 y.o. that was murdered in CCHOP. It was 25 minutes of very gripping raw emotions.

Back to your post now. Progressives are easy to fool that way.

I was going to watch Hannity last night, but I decided that getting a "CHOP Forever" tattoo would be less painful and much more productive <wink>. Plus, Rachel was on!

Historically the Democrats are the party of slavery, secession and segregation.
If statues of Grant and other abolitionists need to come down, then sorry, the Democrats have far greater sins upon which to answer.

Yes, 200 years ago many people of all political parties had sinned a great deal. Over the past 100 years, however the Republicans have been the sinners.

Theres 3 prominent statues of Marx in Germany, and a new tribute to Lenin was unveiled recently. When liberals seek to shame Trump on international issues, they always say that Germany is very disappointed in us, lol. We know that this is the future the left plans for the United States, if they're not kept in check.

Controversial Lenin statue unveiled in Germany′s Gelsenkirchen | News | DW | 20.06.2020
Rather than answer the question, you have to resort to your usual dishonesty by engaging in "tu quoque".

In the case of the cited Lenin statue even trying to create the impression that the German state had anything to do with it.

as a matter of fact, the fascist scum that he appears to so passionately adore, tore down a lot more than just statues.

I don't care who or what you have respect for, because you support a movement whose end goal is to cancel Bertrand Russell eventually, and cancel you. You support people who want to 'decolonize' science, and think technology is racist. When they reach the level of power necessary to dispense with people like you, then you'll need people like me again. Let nature take it's course in that event.
To put your mind to rest, people of your ilk (fascist-worshiping Jew haters and haters of blacks) will never be needed in any society organized along democratic principles. And as insignificant as they show to be overall, replacing them is really nobody's chief concern either, so you can rest at peace on that issue as well.

The master race won't find resurgence and nobody can be bothered to design the countless holes needed to fill the gaps that replacement of any of its proponents would require.
