It's supposed to represent Lincoln restoring freedom to slaves. But symbology is too nuanced a thing for some Americans to comprehend, as it requires thought. It's easier to be offended by everything that doesn't stroke their inflated egos.
No, that's the issue. We can all see the "nuance". It's not difficult to comprehend at all.
