GOP Sen. Murkowski 'struggling' with whether to vote for Trump | TheHill

“I thought General Mattis’s words were true and honest and necessary and overdue,” Murkowski, the chair of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, said on her way to a vote in the Capitol Thursday.

“When I saw Gen. Mattis’s comments yesterday I felt like perhaps we’re getting to the point where we can be more honest with the concerns we might hold internally and have the courage of our convictions and speak up,” she told The Washington Post's Paul Kane, who pooled the remarks and sent them to other Senate reporters.

Asked if she could vote for Trump in the 2020 election, Murkowski admitted, “I am struggling with it. I have struggled with it for a long time.”

IIRC- she is on a number of influential Committees

No doubt, she is not getting a photo op invite from Trump

I was quite surprised on this

While admirable, she's about 3 years too late, so she doesn't really deserve any points for speaking up now. I feel that it really wasn't until Trump started to do some serious damage to the chances of the GOP keeping control of the Senate that any of those spineless cowards even began to offer the meekest of rebukes ("Oh dear me, Im struggling with whether or not to vote for him"...gimme a break)

She and Olympia Snow should get together and wring hands.

I don't want to hear about Lisa Murkowski "struggles" now. Or of any struggles by Susan Collins. Or Mitt Romney.

When History called they chose to support Trump. A pox on all of their houses.

Bingo!

Talk is cheap. They could have put an end to this. They didn't.

I think you may be referring to Collins, but I can see how you got Snowe.

Yeah, I am. I'm also showing my age. Thanks for keeping me in the current century, young fella.

^ Murkowski has small sliver of rationality in her brain I think. That's why she hasn't converted to full Democrat before now.

She & Collins of Maine play the same bull**** game, but vote 100% with Trump when the day comes. Don't fall for it.

I was aware of her votes- though I was surprised that she may not endorse Trump- does she see the writing on the side of the sinking Trumptanic?

Now if she refuses to endorse???

Wait--didn't Romney vote for conviction in the impeachment trial? He was the only Republican to do so, as I recall.

She voted to acquit him. Sounds to me like she's a coward. Lot o' that going around.

Yes, which is why she needs to be voted out. She is a little too late criticizing Trump like she has. The dangers of Trump were always obvious.

He is apparently the first and only senator in US history to vote to convict a president from his own party. And it wasnt that long ago thar he was the standard bearer of that party.

You may have missed my (& others') point. We believe it is all talk. Talk to appease the segment of her constituents that need appeasing. But she's 100% Trump in her actions. Always. Despite the show.

Her & Collins trust Trump has "learned his lesson". Every time. Over & over. What a con job they are!

Only thing I ask if she does not endorse Trump during the election- that would not go over well with Trump or the party

I would, of course, prefer a Democrat in that senate seat. But I appreciate her remark that now is the time to be honest. She's a Republican politician, and going against Trump up to this point was awfully risky. Trump is now calling for a primary challenger, "anyone with a pulse", he said.

But she sees that Trump is weakened, and can thus speak out. And that's important. Who might be next? He really has gone off the deep end.

I hope she gets taken down. All of them deserve to lose their seats for backing Trump and never holding him accountable, and nobody is more deserving than Moscow Mitch

Screw all of them! These Republicans are the worst group of Republicans imaginable.

Yeah, mostly we call them Trumpeteers, Cultists, and/or Loyalists.

Murkowski is "trying" to understand systemic racism toward people of color. Maybe someone in Alaska will explain the racism many indigenous people in her home state endure. She's as befuddled as Sen. Collins. It appears that they both may want to do the right thing
but just can't bring themselves to actually doing it.
