[W:392] Gen. Mattis says he’s 'angry and appalled' at Trump's response to protests

Re: Gen. Mattis says he’s 'angry and appalled' at Trump's response to protests

General Mattis is entitled o his opinions. No big deal.

Former defense secretary, General James Mattis, critiques the president for trying to divide the country.

Trump supporters: Meh, no big deal.

****ing pathetic.

General Mad Dog to troops: 'Men, get your butts down there and engage the enemy."

Phewtenant Herr Highness Vindman: 'Maybe we will and maybe we won't. Before I do anything I first have to look over your orders to decide if they are constitutional or not.'

This is what the Trump party has become: haters of the military. Simply because they choose to do the right thing and speak out against their cult leader. You people have no shame.

General Mark Milley: 'Men, I want you to send two battalians of troops to Minneapolis to help put down the violence like President Trump has ordered.'

Lieutincompetent Vindmann: 'No can do. General Mattis has not approved so, in the words of President Clinton from Vietnam days, 'Hell no, we won't go.'

The President has the authority to deploy the Navy, Marine Corps, and National Guard anywhere he wants in the US to enforce domestic law, without prior approval of Congress. The Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 (and subsequently updated) requires the President to obtain approval from Congress before using the Army or Air Force.

Trump definitely has the authority to send two battalions of National Guard units, if he so wished. Two battalions of Marines would be serious overkill. The purpose is merely to restore order because the Democrat Mayors refuse to allow the police to do their jobs.

He's just mad that Trump didn't want to continue on in Syria, so Mattis could get another notch on his pistol.

These are the same pathetic excuses you make for everyone who dares to speak out against Trump.

They all have a grudge about something, they all have an axe to grind. It's always personal. That is truest form of projection. You think everyone is petty and resentful like your horrible president. Nope. Thankfully that's not true.

Gen. Mattis is wrong. Trump does have the authority to use federal troops to enforce domestic law. The Posse Comitatus Act only requires that the President obtain permission from Congress before using the Army or Air Force. It does not prevent the President from using the Navy, Marine Corps, or National Guard to enforce domestic law, and no prior congressional approval is required.

I cited a Constitutional expert who cited specifically where the Constitution allows it.

And noted that it's happened a dozen times before.

IS that what you all,"Meh?"

The military is laughing at Trump. If I were him I wouldn't push my luck.

I love unintentional liberal humor.

Who do you think most members of the military are going to vote for?

Re: Gen. Mattis says he’s 'angry and appalled' at Trump's response to protests

That is every president.

Only one president gassed non-violent protesters because he wanted a phony photo op in front of a church.

The cult mind really shows its inability to reason and think...very sad.

They rioters should have been shot, with real bullets, instead of just having a smoke grenade tossed in their general direction.

This is what I find funny:

Considering all the Democrat Governors violating the First Amendment rights of Americans, I can understand the President using a photo-op to show his support for the free exercise of religion and freedom of association. He is sending the message to Americans saying that at least the President supports their civil liberties when Democrats are trying to take them away.

What are you overcompensating for?

The military brass cannot abide Trump. They will not vote for him

“I cannot remain silent,” Admiral Mike Mullen, a much-respected former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, wrote in The Atlantic. “Our fellow citizens are not the enemy, and must never become so.”

"The commander in chief is impulsive, disdains expertise, and gets his intelligence briefings from Fox News. What does this mean for those on the front lines?"

Move to a violent dictatorship country that has no freedom, it might suit you.

Another man who is losing his cognetive abilities with age.

I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

*cognitive.

The UCMJ says that soldiers have a duty to disobey unlawful orders, despite where they come from.

That being said, the soldier better be damn sure that what he is disobeying is actually unlawful, and not his opinion. I'm sure General Mattis knows the difference, and also knows the UCMJ like the back of his hand.

Re: Gen. Mattis says he’s 'angry and appalled' at Trump's response to protests

Dummasses: 'Trump needs to be impeached for gassing peaceful protesters just trying to be heard while smashing, looting, burning, assaulting, and murdering innocent Americans.'

I never said he should be impeached for that, stop trying to divert from the truth.

sure pal

Then why did he lie and say the President doesn't have the authority? He knows the President does. Which makes his statements claiming the President doesn't have the authority a deliberate lie.

Show me who said this (other than you).

And again, he did not personally "gas them".

He decided to go on an impromptu walk across the street during a large scale peaceful protest for a photo op at a church while holding up a Bible.

The law enforcement needed to make that happen is short order. Pushing back a crowd that size in short order is not a pretty site. Too bad Trump (again) did not consider the consequences of his actions (whims).

Damn...it is really a headscratcher why the generals are so disgusted with him.

Those right wing rioters?

if they are right wing rioters, then WHY are you all against stopping them?

what lies are told to further this agenda.

you know, I don;t care anymore, let them tear apart their inner cities and defund police. eventually we will have vigilante justice. I hope you enjoy it.

Then why did he lie and say the President doesn't have the authority? He knows the President does. Which makes his statements claiming the President doesn't have the authority a deliberate lie.

Oh, gee, I dunno. Maybe he felt like it was an abuse of his authority to lob tear gas at people who were executing their 1st Amendment right, just so he could have a photo op?

Mattis' Oath of Enlistment said that he "promised to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic." Disagreeing with Trump, at least in this situation, is supporting and defending the very Constitution he agreed to uphold when he joined the military.

I'm sure Trump will allow you to use his bunker if you're too frightened.

The police will be by for your protection, they would be far more lenient than anyone you come across in my neighborhood.

Re: Gen. Mattis says he’s 'angry and appalled' at Trump's response to protests

Mattis was a little short sighted on this, but I agree with his overall sentiment.
