Trump threatens to deploy military as George Floyd protests continue to shake the U.S.

The California NG was involved in '92, as well.

Yep... 10,000 of them although they were not used, if I recall correctly.

It is not required as part of any grammar rule... Soldiers are not a specific group like the Rangers or Marines. If you want me to use it out of respect then you should not be laughing at a person as part of that request.

When it comes down to it, should be normal to do so. I have missed a few on my own, but I do capitalize out of respect

What you do is up to you- gave ya my opinion

The governers can't stop him from deploying troops under the IA.

Wow, so you small government types are all in on sending federal troops into the streets of our cities without the support of the governors, mayors, or local enforcement officials.

Trump could do absolutely anything, and you'd support him, wouldn't you.

I was in the military and you are clearly thinking wrong if you are afraid of our military. I trust our military over the local cops in this country every day of the week. Not using our military to help protect the citizens of this county is beyond stupid.

When I was in the military a lot of us were trained in mountain search and rescue. Naturally the training was to find our soldiers shot down, separated from their unit in battle, or pinned down by the enemy. When a 4 year old boy wondered off in the desert in Tucson thank God the police their called were smart enough to call us. We deployed over 100 soldiers and found the boy in hours. To not use our well trained professionals in our military is a clear sign of just how stupid we have become.

I cannot believe you think our military will just gun down the citizens of this country against orders to the contrary. But you trust the police.:doh
This is nothing to do with trust of individuals, but about trust of the government. No. We don't turn the military against the citizenry. We police ourselves. So don't even go there.

There is a word for that, its a nasty one...
Every last bit of this belongs to mcconnell, though barr is certainly in the conversation. It should be impossible for folks to forget that barr was against the 0-8 Nixon watergate tapes ruling. Nixon may have been a traitor during the 1968 election, but he was never apocalyptically insane.

mcconnell— he’s afraid of losing votes for his senators from trump’s clientele. He refused to allow the USA to see the Mueller report or any other evidence showing just how much of a traitor trump is. And that doesn’t even begin to address trump’s domestic felonies and high crimes and misdemeanors.

Can someone explain to me WTF this was all about?

It's Trump holding up a Bible while standing on the sidewalk outside of a closed down church to ..... uh, here's where I got lost.... I get the idea that it's nothing more than an opportunity to relay the message to all his Bible-thumping MAGA hat wearing Evangelical Christians that he's 'with God and with them'.

That was just a guess

The governor of the states have to request the presence of Active Duty Military under that Act.

The president can federalize the NG and there's nothing the governer can do to stop him.

It is not clear if it was for a photo-op or if it was simply due to disperse a large crowd for security reasons. The people were peaceful... but the President of the USA also needs to secure safety to move around during visits, etc.

After what Trump said today, I can imagine the Secret Service is as pissed at him as demonstrators are. I still don’t get it. Trump has all the people around him who can tell him the right things to say, and he still insists on stepping on his dick.

I actually think that I do capitalize it most of the time out of respect. I often do the same for other professions like Nurses and Teachers... I just think that it is nice. I have never had somebody do what he did though... just seemed strange.

It's the government's duty to protect the people from enemies foreign and domestic.

You should take a step back and think about exactly what it is you're backing.

So Trump just had tear gas and rubber bullets fired at peaceful protesters in Lafayette Park so he could hold a photo op with a Bible to show how tough he is.

What a tough guy. Not a bone spur in sight.

Which common sense would have said he did not need to go there. It was not like he was trying to reach out to the crowd and make things better.

This won’t be the last act of martial law tonight — traitor trump has now given his Xtian faithful the civil war they’ve ‘prayed’ for since WJC — Poosay Assed Bunker Bitch crossed the Rubicon this evening.

This has SStephen ‘Kristallnacht’ Miller written all over it — where was that little nazi — where was Pastor ‘Apocalypse’ Pence?
Well, hang tight. It could be a bluff. Though some Govs may take Trump up on his offer (I pity their citizens), but it isn't a done deal that Trump will force the military on the ones that don't want it. Trump has been known to talk with bluster, then back down.

This one takes the cake. :lamo

All enemies foreign and domestic.
Posse Comitatus Act - Wikipedia
“ Posse Comitatus Act is a United States federal law (18 U.S.C. § 1385, original at 20 Stat. 152) signed on June 18, 1878, by President Rutherford B. Hayes. The purpose of the act – in concert with the Insurrection Act of 1807 – is to limit the powers of the federal government in using federal military personnel to enforce domestic policies within the United States. It was passed as an amendment to an army appropriation bill following the end of Reconstruction and was updated in 1956 and 1981.

The act specifically applies only to the United States Army and, as amended in 1956, the United States Air Force. Although the act does not explicitly mention the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps, the Department of the Navy has prescribed regulations that are generally construed to give the act force with respect to those services as well. The act does not prevent the Army National Guard or the Air National Guard under state authority from acting in a law enforcement capacity within its home state or in an adjacent state if invited by that state's governor. ”

Trump is in well over his head... some things he might do well, like the economy... but we can clearly see that during a crisis he is a moron. This is not even a major crisis like WWII or the Gulf War. Could you imagine this jackass being President during a war? I am making sure that I get my absentee vote in this time... he has got to go.

He knows he is going to lose re-election, the economy is in the tank through at least this year, unemployment is through the roof, people are dieing due to a pandemic, and he has no clue what to do to save his fat arse. Well there is one thing he can do, become Dictator, we know how that usually ends for them.
What will be interesting in the next few days is what the House and the Senate say along with the Governor's on this. America Will be watching, this will not work out for trump if he tries.

I am sure there are many startled readers of all Political stripes that were not aware of this

Noted that Congress must if the Act invoked be informed every 14 days if extended.

Does Congress have the power to override Trump?
Do you think Trump will go along with the bolded? No way!

Yes they are. And I was laughing at your first statement.

Which common sense would have said he did not need to go there. It was not like he was trying to reach out to the crowd and make things better.

Here's what the Church's Bishop had to say about that:

Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde:
"The president just used Bible and one of the churches of my diocese without permission as a backdrop for a message antithetical to the teachings of Jesus and everything our churches stand for.

I am outraged.

The president did not pray ,or acknowledge the agony of people of color who wonder if people in power.

We distance ourselves from the incendiary language of this president. We align ourselves with justice."

What a hero.

Trump is not doing anything with the military... and even if he did I bet they don't respond like he thinks that they will... they are US Soldiers and are not going to be bullet spraying protesters.
