Trump threatens to deploy military as George Floyd protests continue to shake the U.S.

I told ya all he was a Nazi. Few people listened. Many still want to deny reality.

If only we had a Charlie Chaplin could produce The Littlest Dictator

As to the Act - it is the message sent, no restraint, no attempt to address legitimate racist policies in the US

It was a crap speech today: all he had to do was get up and call for calm. The local authorities can handle the 'law and order aspect'. He could have started with, 'Let's all come together and stop this madness. Offenders will be prosecuted, thanks.'

Instead he went hard for the right - a list of crimes and grievances, nationalist rhetoric, law and order and military mobilization. He even threw in the 2A for no apprent reason. All we heard was threats and boorish demands.

I know.

I remember at work we had some classes on "emotional intelligence" or EQ. They were saying that the best way to approach someone who is angry is let them talk, repeat to them what it is that is upsetting them so they understand that they are being heard, etc... Angry people aren't even that interested in an immediate solution. They just want people to know that there has been an injustice, and that it is understood as the injustice that it is. The reason people get angry is they do not feel like they are being heard.

But this penchant for constantly punching back "ten times harder" every time someone gets angry is just Trump being a one-trick pony. Doesn't he understand that threatening people who are this angry is just going to get them over the boiling point? He doesn't know how to do anything else. This is just being emotionally unintelligent and clueless. He could get away with this until now, because he has always been the one in a position of power and privilege, so anytime there was injustice and someone got angry, he could just fire them. But this is different. This is a democracy, still.

I can't imagine this sort of belligerent and inciting approach is going to end well for him. It's just really stupid.

The arrogance of him waving a bible in front of a church.

If there was a just god, there would lightening...

Church was cleared prior to his presser- watched as it unfolded - it was peaceful, up till they needed to clear an area for Trumps photo op.

What a stupid message sent. Playing to his red meat base

It's illegal to use the US military for domestic control. It's the law. Only the National Guard and Navy Coast Guard can be used domestically for civil crowd control.

WRONG!

Insurrection Act of 1807

The Insurrection Act of 1807 is a United States federal law that governs the ability of the President of the United States to deploy military troops within the United States to put down lawlessness, insurrection, and rebellion.

The governor of the states have to request the presence of Active Duty Military under that Act.

Just like Abraham the outlaw president did.

The right is chasing its tail again.

On Sept. 23, 1957, President Dwight Eisenhower signed an executive order sending troops from the Army's 101st Airborne Division to maintain order and peace during the integration of Central High School by nine black students in Little Rock, Ark. Arkansas Gov. Orval Faubus earlier called in the state National Guard to bar black students from the school

12 times the president called in the military domestically - Chicago Tribune

Well that's just ducky. That means that Trump may send the U.S. Army to 40 cities in 23 states. Our U.S. soldiers will definitely subdue anyone trying to break into a Bob's store to rip off some Michael Jordan sneakers. Someone will end up with a bullet in their back holding an armful of Victoria's Secret underwear.

How is this going to work? How will this not cause people to take to the streets in protest over this action?

Yup, tear gassing people so he can go to some church and have a photo op

That was stupid, it will only enrage people, adds to the anger

But do the governors want Trump to have the military invade? Because that's exactly what it is, if Trump sends in the military against a governor's wishes. Apparently, the Trump call today with my governor was acrimonious, ending in disagreement, with Trump saying he disagrees with our governor just as our governor disagrees with him. If that's the case, Trump and his military should stay the hell out, and let us handle our internal problem the way we see fit. We don't need the military escalating our situation.

He didn't want to know anything to do with helping out the states that were under attack -- by the virus. He dropped the ball for dealing with it in the lap of each governor. But using brute force on American civilians is right up his sadistic alley. Now he wants the governors to butt out while he completes the job Putin paid him for.

I'll say it once more for the record. "Trump is going to start a civil war and use the US army then he's going to cancel the election and appoint himself president for life". Trump is the anti-Christ of democracy. Buckle up your seat belts, it looks like it's here.

Trump is a weak person's idea of a strong man.

"The FBI has already started questioning rioters who were arrested in several cities to determine whether they committed any federal crimes, the senior Justice Department official said. It is a federal crime to cross state lines to participate in violent riot."

Law enforcement must '''dominate''' streets amid George Floyd protests, Trump says - ABC13 Houston

If the above is found to be happening, the federal government is well within their rights to intercede.

Cotton Calls for Trump to Use Insurrection Act, Deploy Active-Duty Military to Quell Riots

To a degree.

While I was watching his TV bit, he claims the world thinks we are an embarrassment by what is "going-on". So to end it, he's essentially invading the states with the military? Now what kind of embarrassment is that? To turn the military loose on American citizens? He's got some twisted values system, there.

The reality is you have people marching another nations supporting the protestors. I highly doubt those other nations are laughing at them. Odds are they are laughing at trump

Of course this has happened in other countries, the military was ordered to turn weapons on their own people and sometimes that gets turned around. Our military wants to fight enemies and the enemy is not other Americans.

Anyone want to take bets on the military turning on Trump? The Pentagon is already wavering in their support after his pardon of Eddie Gallagher.

He’s such a ****ing ****.

I may be wrong, but I don't think the U.S. military was called up to contain riots during the Civil Rights movement. I believe it was the National Guard, not the US Army. If you have an article regarding this, I would like to see it. The use of the armed forces to act as a police power on American soil is illegal. It was outlawed by a law enacted in 1878.

It was the 101st Airborne... not the National Guard. They are an elite military unit.

what else can he do? he's not a leader so he has to do something like using soldiers to help his ratings.

That doesn't mean they know how to be cops any better than the average gym coach. It only means they can take more pressure.

Humble Pi:

Alas that is no longer correct. I was gobsmacked to learn that in the chaos of the Hurricane Katrina Crisis in Louisiana the Bush administration and a cooperative Congress quietly amended both the Insurrection Act of 1807 and the Title 10 restrictions of the US Armed Forces so that the Federal Government could use the military in spite of the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878. Worse still they amended the acts to allow the president to use American military forces in the states without state government/governor approval.

See section two, Part A at the bottom of page 3 and the top of page four of the Amendments for the details.

So the Orange Caesar can legally cross the Rubicon and trample states' rights since 2005. You're screwed down there.

Cheers (?), be well and keep your heads down. A modern-day Fort Sumter may be just around the corner.
