Trump threatens to deploy military as George Floyd protests continue to shake the U.S.

Well thanks for sharing the bolded, and for your patience & consideration here.

Kent State is something that stays on my mind, I suppose, their being national guard notwithstanding.

The national guard are or were a part of our military and they are basically soldiers. I believe the guard was created by the military. The only real difference is who is charge. However I will always want our military to protect the people of this country from attack from anyone, any group, or nation when needed. The military is made up of some of the most skilled and highly trained people in the world. Whether it is a a temporary bridge to rescue people in peril or to protect people from being attacked it would be hard to find anyone more prepared to do the job in an emergency. To allow American citizens to die because of fear of our military is beyond ridiculous and stupid.

Which is just what they are. People, don't confuse the protesters with these two bit punks that are taking advantage of the protests.

Well then they need to stop referring to the people burning and looting as protestors because they are not protestors. I have protested and I am not one of these low life losers undermining everything we are trying to accomplish.

So far the only actionable thing you've mentioned is "don't vote Republican". But even this you haven't related to anything concrete in terms of numbers of unarmed black people killed by police under current state conditions and how that would change (and the methods by which it would do so) under your future state conditions.

What is your point, exactly?

Why should black violence protestors do mayhem and destruction continue to do so?

About 2 hours ago, Trump deployed troops from Fort Bragg to quiet the riots in Washington DC. Since DC has special status, local authorities cannot object.

Otherwise Trump has not acted, only suggesting he can order US troops to stop the rioting if governors and other local authorities fail to act.

The NYC Chamber of Commerce, a long time bastion of Democrats, called on Andy Cuomo this morning, demanding the National Guard be called into the city with a shoot on sight order for looters???? Unconfirmed, but hitting the early morning stock market rumor mills. How dare they steal a whole cheesecake? All those lipids and sugar up in smoke!
Do not for a moment forget that during the sixties, the Dem Party transitioning out of the South and ensconced in the Midwest were Blue Dogs! And heavy on the 'Blue'! And they put J.F.K. & Bobby in office!

I submit this:

What Trump doesn't understand is the simple fact that the rest of the world consider him to be the embarrassment. What a tragedy that a once respected and trusted nation held in high regard and affection has been reduced to this, in four short years. And what on earth was that stunt with the bible supposed to be?

Reality Show TV. That's what the whole damn thing, is.

This is his reichstag. Prepare for at leat 10 more years of Trump.

I don't think so. I think a pretty good case can be made that Trump may be little more than a figurehead, trotted out when the GOP wants to get the base fired up.

Think about it, after four months of unlimited access to the world's foremost infectious disease experts, Trump's best plan was to inject disinfectants. I know Primary School students who would know better than that after one hour with their homeroom teacher. So do you. Obviously he hasn't spent even five minutes actually studying the problem. That's not the sign of a man who is in charge of anything.

Trump gets to play POTUS and enjoy the cheers of adulation, and Mitch and friends get to raid the treasury. The amount of legislation they've passed that hurts average Americans is stunning. And if things go South, Mitch will make sure Trump takes the fall. And nobody is going to defend Trump, pretty well everyone hates him.

This is how much Republican leadership cares about Trump, they won't even spend enough to build him a little section of his precious wall:

Shut the front door...

I never liked him.... I simply also did not like Hilary.

 You didn't prove anything other than you do not understand English Grammar.

Agreed... I was just offering a possible thing that Congress might/could do.
Actually, I just came back to the Dems recently, specifically to remove Trump. I left the Dems, no I take that back - they left me - a long time ago. But unfortunately, the Republicans have turned far worse. And, the only thing that will defeat a major party like the Republicans is another major Party. So I went from years as an Indie, to now being a card carrying Dem again.

It's not so bad, as I see the Dems fighting for freedom against what's becoming an authoritarian totalitarian government. The huge diversity within the party is a turn-on, too. Not just the cultural diversity, but the diversity of ideas. If they could open-up to be more accepting of some socially conservative ideas, I think I could stick around.

Well said, particularly that I bolded.

We're going to have disagree on this one, my friend.

I hope things went well at your polling place. Nice job in contributing to our democratic process. It's been awhile since I worked the precincts, but it was a whole different thing back then.

Yup, tear gassing people so he can go to some church and have a photo op

Where did you learn that tear gas was used?

Oh wait, it wasn't.
By now you should know that the over zealous media reported yet again, incorrectly.

It went well. No protestors or trouble. We had a constable and roving local as well as state police. They even brought in the bomb sniffing dogs before we were let into the building. What they did was combine 6 wards so they could concentrate police protection. But they put us right in the center of the most dangerous district. But the building was in a wide open area which would not let anyone sneak up on us. We had base ball fields, soccer fields, etc. all around the sports center we were in. They could see anyone coming for a half of a mile. Turn out was poor. However most of the people voting were minorities I am pleased to say. I would say half of the walk-in voter were minorities. That is considering that between the 6 wards they probably were less than 15% of the population. Sad to say that most of the elderly that make up my area will not go into that neighborhood. They are truly afraid under normal circumstance and with the threat from these criminals there was no way they were going to go to that area to vote. I was glad to see that my mom at 80 was not afraid and worked the polls like she always does. Oh I almost forgot there were even a couple of minorities working the polls. Just 2 but that is better than none. Now all we need is a minority as a candidate. I no longer consider white women a minority because of the number running in my area and winning now. Enough, I am getting carried away again.

So what are the steps the president must take to invoke the act? When was the last time the Insurrection Act was invoked?

1962. Sitting lame duck president, three months prior to the end of his term "Ike" Eisenhower, cited the act as he sent a battalion of US Army troops into Alabama, "to protect voting polls" from the forces led by then Governor George Wallace, stating "I am protecting the rights of men of valor from Alabama, among the most honorable soldiers who followed my command." One of the two largest contingents of segregated African American soldiers he was speaking of were from Alabama. He also gave a nod to the Tuskagee Airmen, tho they came from throughout the US. The "Redball Express" which kept Patton supplied, was almost entirely manned by African Americans from Alabama. The majority of victims of the Malmady Massacre were Alabama African Americans, mostly cooks and other menial positioned African Americans who picked up their rifles to fight unexpected Nazi forces beginning the Battle of the Bulge. "Ike" was one of the first American generals to call for integration of the US Army. Damn Republican.

Good old Mayor Daley. :) Nixon's contingent claimed he and his party machine were bought by Joe Kennedy. I could never forget him. I laughed, he was wealthier than Joe Kennedy, didn't need his money. He owned the Chicago meat markets. But they were two of a kind.

Where's your link to contradict that? Right now sll we've got us you saying "no he didn't " Need a little more than your opinion.

DC is a giant slum. No need for tear gas, ask the tourists. Built on wetlands, the stench come summer makes the aromatic aroma of summer stale urine in NYC seem pleasurable. The one thing both cities have in common, the local democrats who keep getting elected still haven't figured out both cities need numerous public pissoirs.

I assume you are referring to executive order 10730 (PROVIDING ASSISTANCE FOR THE REMOVAL OF AN OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE WITHIN THE STATE OF ARKANSAS) which cited sections 332, 333 and 334 of 10 USC 15.

You will note this was in Arkansas, the governor was Orval Faubus, he federalized the Arkansas National Guard and the year was 1957. Are you referring to something else?

Technically, they appear to be correct. Practically, however, they are lying like hell.

The protesters were gassed. It technically was not tear gas, but a one off substitute.

The lying of this administration is reason enough to vote them out, but its their incompetence, which is laughable at the surface, if so many people were not dying or harmed as result, that will get it done.

Meh, my memories fail, so I was off a couple of years. It still happened. Ike still sent in the US Army to protect the Alabama polling sites from Wallace and his friends. He still called Wallace a "terrorist insurgent."

Arkansas was never Alabama. For three elections, Governor George Wallace had ordered all local police and the Alabama National Guard to protect the polls from unqualified (read Black) voters, and shoot outside agitators. George claimed he wasn't a racist or bigot. He was protecting his state and its citizens from outside interference, but not the KKK.
