The wife of Derek Chauvin, the fired Minneapolis police officer charged in the death of George Floyd, has reportedly filed for divorce over his role in the case, according to media reports.
Attorneys for Kellie Chauvin said Friday that she is seeking the “dissolution of her marriage” to Chauvin.
“She is devastated by Mr. Floyd’s death,” a statement on behalf of Kellie Chauvin and her family read. “Her utmost sympathy lies with his family, his loved ones and with everyone who is grieving.”
“She has filed for dissolution of her marriage,” the letter continued.
Kellie Chauvin doesn’t have any children from her current marriage, the letter said, and it was not clear how long the couple have been married.

She also asked for her children and family to have protection. He may have been abusive to her and their kids. I only have one thing I'd ask her; 'what took you so long?'
They guy's having a bad week.

Which was probably on her mind, even if not on his!

He has "them" as a team. Like everything is not only honky dory in their marriage but they're so tight as to commit fraud together in the face of injustice. In that fairy tale world, this guy has it all together.

Why tell that fairy tale?

Well, the speculation mill sure started churning to top revs. in no time at all.

Apart from there being no credible evidence for any of it (which indeed doesn't preclude that divorce is being filed for), a cop that has "allegedly" committed murder (note that the court will rule on that and none of us), of necessity must be a wife beater as well.

There can be no other explanation.

Keerist.

Fear!!

Her husband was a cop...so who is she gonna call after he abused her and/or her kids? But now that he's going be tied up for awhile with other matters...now is probably her best chance to be rid of him.
I've seen situations like you describe. We don't often publicly hear of it, until the guy snaps & does something heinous, and then we find out his history that was protected by the blue wall.

I can see some of the appeal of marrying a cop, but that sword cuts both ways if you end-up on the wrong side of your spouse.

Also through anecdotal experience, it seems to me a fair amount of cops don't handle break-ups well. I've heard this from ex-g/f's & ex-wives, several times from women I knew from younger before their relationships with a law enforcement member. I'm not sure if it's a personality-type prevalent in LEO's, or of it's that LEO's have the ability to easily & surreptitiously act extra-legally. But I've known some women that absolutely fear the LEO's in their ex-relationships. Several I knew were afraid to date or had their difficult situation chase their prospective romantic suitors away. Pretty sad, really.

What exactly are you saying here?

absolutely...it worked for me. My ex ended up in jail and I took my **** and ran for the damn hills.

you should have ran to the beach.

:)

Well if she was indeed scared of her husband, perhaps she is using the fact that he is currently incarcerated as a her chance to get the Hell out.

Exactly....a cop's wife trying to get away cannot expect any help from the Authorities if he beats her.

No one seems to be on this mans side (public opinion wise). So why are we seeing arson and looting? Why is the media and the Democratic Party failing to condemn this criminal behavior?

Ask Umbrella Guy (the cop in black mufti)

What exactly are you saying here?

Painting them as a team is painting the cop in the best possible light. An impossible light. A valorizing light.

He doesn't have things together. His wife isn't acting in his interest so as to protect their assets in the face of injustice. He's scum and she's out.

Saying she's out for financial reasons (not that they're a team) is the same but lite.

There's no reason to give the cop any benefit of doubt let alone a fantasy wherein they're still a team.

She just lost her husband. Great way for her to make some cash. Beats writing fraudulent checks, which she is accused of doing.

The cop's soon to be ex-wife is accused of writing fraudulent checks? Link to that info source, please.

I have literally no idea how you extrapolated that? Surely, you realize the couple are talking to their lawyers? And receiving counsel? Whether together, or separately? In fact, he virtually surely was appointed a lawyer by his FOP union.

Did you bother reading the link provided in the op?

"Officer Derek Chauvin’s wife, Kellie, who was the 2018 Mrs. Minnesota America winner, was accused of writing a bad check for $42 to Mega Pick’N Save West in February 2005, the Daily Mail reported."

I think people are making assumptions about domestic violence.

I'm sure the family consulted attorneys, and this was probably an option presented to help protect her. This separates her from the issue - isolating her financially, and separating her in the public view. There's no question he's going to jail and facing lawsuits. She still has to live her life. Hopefully, he cares enough to not contest this.
Exactly! She may have done it herself. Or, it may have been a mutually agreed upon tactic. But the family has to isolate their assets & liability from the husband.

2005 eh? Well, that's just like yesterday, isn't it?

Try reading it again?

Anyway, they're not a team and she's not out for financial reasons. He's scum. End of story.

You know how it works......if you can't blame the black victim, blame the woman victim.

To the bold: She probably felt safe to leave now that he is in jail and in the public eye. Cops kill the wives who try to leave often enough to be worried, IMO.

The OP's source is the NYPost...not the Daily Mail.
