The wife of Derek Chauvin, the fired Minneapolis police officer charged in the death of George Floyd, has reportedly filed for divorce over his role in the case, according to media reports.
Attorneys for Kellie Chauvin said Friday that she is seeking the “dissolution of her marriage” to Chauvin.
“She is devastated by Mr. Floyd’s death,” a statement on behalf of Kellie Chauvin and her family read. “Her utmost sympathy lies with his family, his loved ones and with everyone who is grieving.”
“She has filed for dissolution of her marriage,” the letter continued.
Kellie Chauvin doesn’t have any children from her current marriage, the letter said, and it was not clear how long the couple have been married.

She also asked for her children and family to have protection. He may have been abusive to her and their kids. I only have one thing I'd ask her; 'what took you so long?'

Kinda of interesting, there may be more then meets the eye in this story...

She was likely very afraid of him before. And it would appear for good reason. Now that he is very much in the public eye this is her chance to make her escape.

I feel for her and her kids. Him? Not so much.

Derek Chauvin and Floyd worked security at the El Nuevo Rodeo club, down the street from Minneapolis' Third Precinct, according to Maya Santamaria, the club's former owner who sold the venue within the last few months.

Floyd, who Santamaria called a "great guy" known for his big smile, often worked as an extra security guard on Tuesdays when the club held popular "urban" music nights. Chauvin served as an off-duty police officer for the club for almost 17 years.

"I wouldn't characterize them as knowing each other," Santamaria told CNN's Josh Campbell in an interview. "We did all work together at the club at different points of time, certainly on Tuesday nights on and off. We were all working on the same team."

Earlier, I saw this characterized as if they had both worked there for 17 years. Chauvin did but Floyd only recently.

Perhaps the wife heard about a disagreement between the two.

Ouch. When it rains, it pours.

Good way for them to hide assets for the inevitable civil suits.

Well if she was indeed scared of her husband, perhaps she is using the fact that he is currently incarcerated as a her chance to get the Hell out.

This.

Fear!!

Her husband was a cop...so who is she gonna call after he abused her and/or her kids? But now that he's going be tied up for awhile with other matters...now is probably her best chance to be rid of him.

This too.

The blue wall of silence formed by cops envelopes and protects fellow cops accused not merely of brutality on the job, but brutality off the job towards spouses, girlfriends and family members.

Perhaps your right but she may also be afraid of the public if she continues to stay with him. Nobody should jump to conclusions one way or the other.

It doesn't appear to be a lot of vetting of employees down at that police station. Looking at this guy's past and now his wife I'm sure there were signs he was unstable. I hope for a better future.

wow.

that was too quick.

No one seems to be on this mans side (public opinion wise). So why are we seeing arson and looting? Why is the media and the Democratic Party failing to condemn this criminal behavior?

Not sure the motive here. The angry side of me makes me want to say that she may be protecting her financial interests against a wrongful death lawsuit.....but the other side of me makes me think that either she is a victim of domestic violence that has finally been given an escape...or that she is so disgusted with his behavior she no longer wants to be associated with him.

The sensible side of me tells me she probably was abused by this moron...he killed a man, had 18 IA investigations against him for excessive force...he is a bully....that usually does not stop on the homefront and usually is taken out on the wife and kids.

absolutely...it worked for me. My ex ended up in jail and I took my **** and ran for the damn hills.

So you haven't actually watched the news because most do condem rioting.
Just so everyone knows, Protesting is not Rioting, most often those that riot use protests to cover their looting, destruction and burning. Normally the rioters are a very small group compared to the overall numbers if protestors.
One final thought, the murder in Minnesota, is Not an isolated case, nearly every city has there own examples of people being killed or hurt based solely on the color of their skin. It has to stop or things will get far worse.

I think people are making assumptions about domestic violence.

I'm sure the family consulted attorneys, and this was probably an option presented to help protect her. This separates her from the issue - isolating her financially, and separating her in the public view. There's no question he's going to jail and facing lawsuits. She still has to live her life. Hopefully, he cares enough to not contest this.

C'mon Casper. This is not a protest and never was a protest. It's an excuse to burn and loot inner city businesses and property. And everyone committing the crimes is a Democrat (or at the least would not identify as a Republican).

Racial crime statistics in this debate will not work in your favor. For example, blacks are just 13% of the population, yet they are responsible for 52% of the murders committed in the USA. Also, More white people are statistically killed by the police. Casper, have you ever read about black crime statistics?
