Wife of ex-Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin reportedly filing for divorce

The wife of Derek Chauvin, the fired Minneapolis police officer charged in the death of George Floyd, has reportedly filed for divorce over his role in the case, according to media reports.
Attorneys for Kellie Chauvin said Friday that she is seeking the “dissolution of her marriage” to Chauvin.
“She is devastated by Mr. Floyd’s death,” a statement on behalf of Kellie Chauvin and her family read. “Her utmost sympathy lies with his family, his loved ones and with everyone who is grieving.”
“She has filed for dissolution of her marriage,” the letter continued.
Kellie Chauvin doesn’t have any children from her current marriage, the letter said, and it was not clear how long the couple have been married.

She also asked for her children and family to have protection. He may have been abusive to her and their kids. I only have one thing I'd ask her; 'what took you so long?'

I am sure there are other reasons his wife is seeking a divorce, only they know what goes on in a marriage.

Other than to the die hard readers of the National Inquirer, this is of interest - why?

This might be of interest to wives out there that may be abused by their spouse. This might be of interest to people out there that would like to know if there was any domestic abuse in addition to the separate 18 charges of abuse he already had on his record. It may be useful to prosecutors if there was a documented record or history of intimidation or physical abuse committed against his wife or children. It peaks the curiosity of those who want to know why this man has been retained as a police officer for 18 years if there was indeed proof of his gestapo leanings in both public, private and professional life. Those are multiple reasons why this is pertinent to the murder of George Floyd. There are many reasons why the wife of Derek Chauvin would immediately file for divorce. If they were having difficulties in their marriage why didn't she file for divorce sooner? If they were having marital problems before he committed murder what prevented her from seeking the distance and safety net offered through a divorce filing previously? Most wives in a good marriage, as we have seen in the case of Edward Gallagher, stick by their spouse. His wife didn't file for divorce one day after he was court-martialed for murder, she supported him.

All of these questions will be asked of Kellie Chauvin by prosecutors and that's why people are interested in learning the facts.

If she made an honest mistake she would have paid after she got the first letter. Instead she waited until criminal charges got filed and the paid. Beats a knee to the neck right.

So yes she was accused of wrong doing. She is a thief that probably counterfeited checks before. it was just the first time she got caught.

she is from Laos, it is quite possible she didn't understand what she was reading. My husband is from Honduras...he could receive 100 letters in English, he wouldn't be able to read a single one of them. He can communicate somewhat and my neighbors get through most of a conversation without having to contact me now to understand everything...our mayor loves the heck out of him and comes to our house for his projects he needs help with. So, have you considered there may be a language barrier there? Especially, considering how many years ago this was?

Your racist rantings against this Asian American woman is vile. Leave her and her children alone. She's not at fault, and should be allowed to divorce for whatever reason she wishes. Posts like yours, and the views you express, are part of the reason minorities feel so mistreated and disrespected in the United States.

"Asian woman asking for divorce is a sham." Get real. I'm not up to responding to anymore of your anti-asian rants. Maybe another time. I will never understand the hate you express towards "others" though.

agreed that she should be able to divorce him and that their marriage or divorce is frankly none of our business. I doubt her motives are nefarious. That said, I don't think the other poster is making his comments because he is racist or she is Laotian....btw, I am not attracted to women, but his wife is a very pretty woman. .

To clear up some things as welll...

She is not the sister of Tou Thao, the other officer involved.
Derek Chauvin's Wife and Tou Thao Are Not Siblings

I am not even certain that this officer is from Laos origin...it seems to me he is more likely Vietnamese. My former step mother is from Thailand and I had a friend in high school whose entire family, except his mother were murded by the Khmer Rouge in Laos. His name was Spider. I learned so much about that time. We watched in small steps the Killing Fields as he and his brother explained what was factual and what was not and what happened in detail...it was heart wrenching. btw, my real father wasn't a class A husband either...I respected my step mother and felt sorry for her at the same time.

Too many assumptions. She is just a thief.

who leaves their spouse days after an event like this?

would you guys?

so you're gonna leave your wife after a few days after an incident where all the testimony hasn't come out?

Nope. Why would anyone do that?

I did not. In fact, I clearly stated the exact opposite.

yeah. me either.

which makes this situation all the more curious. why would a spouse leave a spouse a day or two after an event. there has to be more to it.
