White House decides to not release next economic forecast (AP, via Mercury News).
The White House took the unusual step on Thursday of deciding not to release an updated economic forecast as planned this year, a fresh sign of the administration’s anxiety about how the coronavirus has ravaged the nation just months before the election.

The decision, which was confirmed by a senior administration official who was not authorized to publicly comment on the plan, came amid intensifying signals of the pandemic’s grim economic toll.
Since Trump was planning to run on the economy, and it has crashed, the administration is taking "active measures" to hide reality from the public. Don't expect to see the report before the election.

“It’s a sign that the White House does not anticipate a major recovery in employment and growth prior to the election and that it has essentially punted economic policy over to the Fed and the Congress,” said Joe Brusuelas, chief economist for the consultant RSM.

The senior administration official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, maintained that the underlying economic data would be too uncertain to convey a meaningful picture about the recovery.

But the political stakes of a weakening economy are hard to overstate, especially in states such as Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin that are critical to the president’s reelection.

An economic forecast is not "reality" - far from it, especially one trying to predict how things will progress over the next couple of months.

Don't expect to see the report before the election.
We won't need to see "the report" before the election, because we will have lived reality.

It's hard to come up with a forecast when you have 50 governors all making their own decisions about their own state economies.

Go ahead. Call it what it is. T has finally crossed over to playing out being the Big Lie Nazi on every single governmental duty of a Free Nation.

What's that giant sucking sound?

Surprise, surprise, surprise. That's the "most transparent" administration we've all come to know and love.

Of course the White House will not release the next economic forecast, no one wants to see the title of the report.

Something along the lines of... 'We are all ****ed!'

8 years idiot Republicans called the jobs numbers fake when Obama was president, and the moment the orange chosen one was inaugurated they suddenly became real. Now that the economy is in the crapper, Trump and his minions are hiding the numbers, or trying to manipulate them to save the idiot from getting crushed in November. What a joke.

SHHHH!

If you're not quiet people will know the economy sucks.

None of which are actual justifications, let alone excuses. Obama didn't hide reports when he inherited Bush's economy. Why is Trump such a coward?

It's the states' fault, huh? Strange. Those 50 governors were making their own decisions about their own state economies when Obama didn't suppress evidence, like Trump is. It's different because there's an R next to Trump's name.

Bad for business eh, awwww, I feel so sorry, Karma is a Bitch and doesn't seem to like him much, one and done, sounds about right for trump.

With the Atlanta Fed GDPNow model estimate for real GDP growth (seasonally adjusted annual rate) in the second quarter of 2020 at -40.4 percent on May 28 it’s not hard to understand why they don’t want to put out any forecasts.

it's comical, except when i look at my 401k, which i'm definitely not doing right now. the good news is that i think that i'll be retiring somewhere around the twelfth of never.

I totally and 100% believe you two would say the EXACT same thing if it were Obama making this decision. There's not a doubt in my mind your thoughts on this topic are steadfast and not at all related to partisan hackery.

Whoever takes over as Executive after all the damage caused by Donald Trump will have an almighty task getting things in shape again.

Dude...Obama isn't President anymore. Get over it.

It's looking to be better soon. The economy isn't the stock market, but the stock market is what matters with investments.

But I'm not happy about retirement prospects either. It only stays better if we make some serious structural changes, and since we're human beings (aka, a collection of flaming asshats, on average), we'll probably keep doing the wrong thing on all sorts of fronts. Debt, climate, etc.

I looked at mine and was shocked at how well it was performing. It's made a nice comeback. You can look!
