Would YOU ignore Trump's disturbed accusations if the president's tweets were about your own dead spouse?

Our president was at it again last week Tweeting 19-year old unfounded accusations in order to attack one of his critics.
Trump essentially accused Joe Scarborough of murdering his congressional aid who died after an accidental fall in 2001.
The dead woman's husband asked the ceo of Twitter to delete the Trump tweets, complaining that Trump's insensitive and baseless attack causes him and his family to relive the painful tragedy.
Meanwhile, good honest hard working people continually overlook these types of lies that Donald Trump uses in order to keep his followers angry.

6 times Trump has falsely accused his political opponents of crimes

Many Americans don't seem to care what Trump says in his vicious attacks that are often filled with baseless lies.
To his supporters attacking whoever Trump perceives as an enemy or threat is just playing "hardball".

However, I see Trump's lies and attacks as proof that we live in a truly Machiavellian time in which holding on to power at any and all means is paramount.
"Win at all costs!" is the mantra of the GOP even if it destroys belief in our institutions, undermines justice in our society, or causes people heartache.

Trump is mentally disturbed due to a combination of hyper narcissism and never having been forced or taught not to make himself the center of the universe. He is a serial liar who creates his own reality apart from normal society .

Of the many antics of the President, this one is really hard to defend.

This is Sandy hook truther level of nonsense coming from the President of the United States.

He gets away with it because his supporters let him.

Wait till after January, I can see the lawsuits being filed against trump shooting through the roof.

Funny stuff.... you moan about baseless lies when it's the MSM that bombards
the Trump administration 7/24 with completely baseless lies and false accusations.

NYT, CNN, NBC, MSNBC, WP, YAHOO NEWS, and the list goes on and on!

haymarket your diagnosis of the patient is credible. But what of his "base"?
Has our society devolved to a level that the two largest "tribes" can do or say anything and still maintain a large enough following to make election possible?

So you don't have any defense of Trump's unhinged actions? Just another diatribe about the unfair bad media people who hate The Donald?

He gets away with it because his supporters let him.

I agree. Do you think American society has scraped "integrity", "honesty", and "fair play" as worthwhile attributes?

Hell, Trump's been accused of mass murder. Turn about is fsir play.

You deflect my key point.

This is the POTUS making up crap and spewing vindictive lies to add blood in the water to stir up tribal hatred within his base.

I can't control the media regarding their reporting. I can't control POTUS from spewing lies.
But I continually wonder why Common Sense 1 and so maqny others ACCEPT whatever Trump says or doses.
Have you lowered the bar to simply "Win at all costs"?

It's actually the whole of the world's media except conservative media.

American conservative media consumers have a recent history distinct from the consensus reality of the rest of the world.

A recent history that changes as necessary to cover trump's ass.

Very "1984" tbh.

Has our society devolved to a level that the two largest "tribes" can do or say anything and still maintain a large enough following to make election possible?

I think this administration has proven that the answer to that question is a resounding "yes." When you become utterly convinced that the other side is out to destroy your very way of life, you will vote for the lowest common denominator if they promise to fight your battle for you. It's the ugly last ditch effort of a party that sees extinction right around the corner.

Very interesting point. So your pithy response a) assumes The Donald will no longer grace the White House, and b) the newly elected president will opt NOT
to pardon Mr Trump for any questionable acts Trump was shielded from answering for while a sitting president.

Your first assumption: that Mr Trump will not be re-elected would indicate that a majority of voters in states holding the majority of Electoral College votes
will not accept Mr. Trump's assertions that all the good things in the US are due to his brilliance, and all the bad things in the US are due to Democrats.

I agree. Do you think American society has scraped "integrity", "honesty", and "fair play" as worthwhile attributes?

It seems that way.

It wasn't anything that I fought for... but people are and it seems like they are winning.

A rough guess says at least 1/3 to 1/2 of the Trump base is the deplorable. The rest are Republicans who simply want power and authority.

Trump is a third world leader. It amazes me so few Americans fail to see he is dragging us into that world with him.

iwf, you eloquently state my own belief. I posed a question in order to hear the views of others, and also because I attempt even in these dire times to remain an optimist about human nature.

If we look at the American response to World War Two, I saw the faith in our "common bond" weaken by the time we became embroiled in the Vietnam War 30 years later.
In 1942, Americans pulled together in our global military actions sharing years of hardships with a common goal.
In 1972, we were split between those who preached "My country right or wrong." and those who responded "Hell no, I won't go!"

Today, in 2020, you state, "When you become utterly convinced that the other side is out to destroy your very way of life, you will vote for the lowest common denominator if they promise to fight your battle for you."
I hope you will expand on that statement...

I just started a thread that's pertinent to this. I don't know if Trump is going to go scot-free on this one.

How is it that you think Twitter has some kind of power?

Mason66, I don't use Twitter. But I know communication using a large megaphone IS power. That's why Ford trucks show up on CBS.
And Mr Trump has accumulated some 80 million followers on Twitter. That's a lot of eyeballs. So a Trump Tweet is millions of times more potent than my posts on Facebook.
Because nobody reads mine.

I spent decades designing advertising, directing marketing tools and publicity. Few people drive cars they never heard of. But millions read every Trump Tweet.

Twitter has immense power because it showcases peoples' comments.

Correct on the election, as it stands now he has already lost enough States that a EC win is extremely unlikely.
Correct that the next President will not Pardon trump.
Yes, the lawsuits will be coming quickly, and I will not be surprised if some criminal charges are filed.

apdst, you have a wicked sense of humor. But if this lowlife was using the death of my dead loved one to gain political points I would not feel like turning the other cheek.

This isn't Twitter. This is the President of the United States doing this.

Whether using his smart phone on the toilet or saying this at a lectern, the effect is 100% the same.

He is pushing a conspiracy with no merit to satisfy some beef with a morning talk show host without care as to who is harmed in the process.

We used to consider that to be a bad thing in this country.

Donald Trump is an ignorant, conspiracy spreading liar. That POS has always done things like this. Patriotic Americans do care, but his base of whackadoodle cultists cheer that crap on. You know Donnie, he loves the ignorant, gullible inbreds and hopes to harvest their votes again in November, with the help of his Puppet Master, Mr. Putin of course.

Win at all costs is the new Trump Klan Party mantra, the buttsucking repugs are putting this poor excuse of a human being above our country, our constitution and above their own republican party. They have all exposed themselves very clearly for what they are, and to be brief, let's just lump it into one word un-American.

The Liar in Chief also alleged that Cruz' father was in on the Kennedy assassination.....DJT is a lowly POS. Take the trash out in November, and vote Democratic!
