As we've discussed elsewhere, and as you have yourself even noted at times, that particular ship has long since sailed; the majority of politicos on both sides of the aisle are intractably corrupt, even if one is less bad on the whole. The betrayal and destruction of government institutions probably began in earnest shortly after 1976 when our SCOTUS, in its infinite albeit dubious wisdom, declared that money was tantamount to speech, and electoral spending, lobbying and corporate influence exploded since, continuing unabated even through Democrat administrations, culminating in the rise and eventual take over of the party by the New Democrats which blight it to this day.
There are few good guys in governance; the majority that rock the boat get stamped out, tamed or otherwise marginalized by self-interested and entrenched politicos and sponsors too vested in maintaining and consolidating their own power, control and hegemony as we've seen: when it comes to the reins of power, real power in this country, there's only bad and worse.
