President Trump on Wednesday threatened to halt federal funding to Michigan and Nevada over the distribution of absentee ballots in those states amid the ongoing coronavirus outbreak that has left more than 90,000 Americans dead.

“Breaking: Michigan sends absentee ballots to 7.7 million people ahead of Primaries and the General Election,” Trump tweeted. “This was done illegally and without authorization by a rogue Secretary of State. I will ask to hold up funding to Michigan if they want to go down this Voter Fraud path!”

Trump’s threat to halt funding was issued hours after floods forced the evacuation of about 10,000 people in central Michigan. He didn’t specify what kinds of federal aid he would stop, or cite a legal basis for the action.

Making voting safe, easy and convenient, especially at a time like this is against Republican interests.
 
The courts would tie up any such attempt until after November. The only cost would be paying for the lawyers on both sides. We, the people, would take care of the bill.

Yeah, voting with paper ballots can seem super complicated to some people, and they can get suckered into believing people like Alex Jones who tell them Dems are going to steal the election.

In reality what happens is representatives from all involved parties are present during counting, and of course an Overlord of the Lizard people. Pretty cool eh.

That's the spirit! Evidence that the Republicans are doing something nefarious (screwing with fair elections, in this case) is really always evidence that it's the Democrats doing that something nefarious, not Republicans. Black is really white, the war is with Eastasia, we've always been at war with Eastasia...

You're suggesting we can trust Republicans, full-fledged members of Voter Suppression Inc? The party that forced people to vote in the middle of a pandemic in hopes it would reduce turnout? Sheesh.

And don't forget the 2018 election. Wisconsin’s electorate*voted strongly*for Democratic control. Voters chose a Democratic governor, and gave 53 percent of their support to Democratic candidates for the State Assembly. But the state is so heavily gerrymandered that despite this popular-vote majority, Democrats got only 36 percent of the Assembly’s seats.

And far from trying to reach some accommodation with the governor-elect, Republicans*drastically reduced the powers of his office.

Yeah, we can trust 'em. :roll:

Anybody with a brain knows they have observers from both parties in the room when they count votes
and IF there is a vote in dispute it either is OKed by both parties or discarded
there isn't just one party counting the votes

I get a kick out of Trump doing this
He has come out against " Harvesting " votes

Yet was it this month or last HE had a person that is high up in the Republican party in Fla, pick up his and his wife's ballots drop them off and then ( it may have been him or somebody else ) picked up and Trump doesn't know for sure if his vote even got to the board of elections
YES I know he IS the President and is busy during this CV thing but if he can do it why not the rest of us?
well I can only assume that it is OK for the Republicans to do it but don't let anybody else do it
