Bittersweet... would make those in the winter of their lives have one more thing to be grateful for. I want an America I can recognize, one I was born and grew up in, not one run and worshiped by the KKK or the Mafia. At my age and with white skin, scumbags like Trump and his cultists can't do me any harm personally. My heart would go out to the younger people, people of color, women, gays, non-Christians and the poor...they will be alone, Democracy will be destroyed and the American dream will be dead.

While me situation isn't too different than yours, Trump breaks my heart every goddamn day. He breaks my heart, because he destroys the country, the dream, the ideals I love. And as they die, a piece of me dies. And that's where the pain endures.

We have some good friends in The States, I would hate to think this is what such a great nation has been reduced to....striving to bring back a time when you could refuse to rent to blacks. Or when blacks had to ride at the back of the bus. Or when they couldn't drink out of he same water fountain as Whites. Or when they weren't allowed to vote. Or when they were slaves. I know what you mean, he does constantly destroy the country and hurt the American people in more ways that can even be mentioned. It pains me to see he's still there and nobody was strong or patriotic enough to have him removed, although I give a lot of credit and respect to all who had a hand in getting him Impeached. Eye opener for me, I now know how unstable the republican party is, now they they have put this character not only above their party, but above their country and fellow man. I want to feel America again, hoping to soon....I know many Americans feel just the same way we do.

Not surprised. I doubt Obama wants to visit the Whitehouse anyway as long as that fat orange idiot resides there. I will say one thing though. I guarantee if Obama chose not to host the Bush's at the whitehouse to unveil Bush's portrait, "conservatives" everywhere would have screamed bloody murder.

I wouldn't go that far. If he gets re-elected it will mean Democrats chose not to vote in the numbers they should have voted. They can beat Trump. Democrats can beat Republicans. In 2018 Democrats kicked Republican's asses, all based on anti Trump sentiment.

There's only so much campaigning Obama can do, and I know he will campaign like hell for Biden. Nothing would vindicate Obama more than if his VP ended up being Trump's successor, and Trump had his entire "legacy" obliterated by Biden. But again, it's up to the voters. Republicans tend to come out in strong numbers no matter which idiot candidate is running. Democrats on the other hand often tend to fight amongst themselves about what's electable or not, where as Republicans elect the most unelectable scumbags imaginable simply because policy and pissing of the libs matters to them more than anything else.

Yes, Trump is a petty little man, vindictive and pouty. We would expect nothing less than his obnoxious behavior in this matter. However, under the circumstances, now is not the time to be holding ceremonial events in the White House. We know that covid-19 is there. There will come a time when the portrait unveiling will happen, with or without the blessing of Trump.

No he did not. Diplomatic relations means we exchange ambassadors and establish embassies. Neither of these things have happened.
