Puerto Rico to hold referendum on statehood in November

Why would Democrats love to adopt P.R.? It's got a Republican government if I remember.

I seriously doubt any Republican government in PR is pro-Trump Republican.
So it has a Republican government, so what?
At some point in the future they may wind up with a Democratic Party majority instead, and if their Democrats screw up, then it will again become Republican led. If they don't screw up, bye bye Republican government.

Sounds like America to me.

It's so embarrassing how all of the cuks are out in full force using the same language they use for innercities but not welfare red states.

Do you guys think people are oblivious to this ? It's why no Republicans candidate for president has won a popular vote in over 15 years.

It's only going to get worse, ladies.

The House probably would but with McConnell in the Senate not a chance in hell

If we could revert Kentucky back to being a colony and put PR as a state, that's a win win, even economically because KY takes FAR more from the Federal coffers than PR.

And yes, we could keep the 50 star flags, saving even MORE money.

(Puerto Rico will hold a nonbinding referendum to decide the issue of Puerto Rico’s statehood, the governor announced.

The referendum will be held in November and will ask a single, simple question: Should Puerto Rico be immediately admitted as a U.S. state?)

Sorry, we dont need welfare island.
The democrats would love to adopt welfare island.

Spoiler alert—we already have “welfare island”. The Federal Government already pays many billions in welfare to Puerto Rico each year for nutrition assistance, public health, education, and subsidized public housing, among others.

Trouble is, they've learned that they can cheat and get away with it, so they don't give a damn about popular vote.
This time around, I actually don't think all the cheating in the world is going to work for them, and once we're back in, it will be time to bring that to a screeching halt.

If the American people choose wisely and give us Democrat majorities in both chambers and a Democrat in the White House, we might see a lot of correcting of past wrongs in one of the most productive Congresses in history. It all depends on what kind of Congress we vote in.

Would Puerto Rico get more in government help than it would pay in taxes?
That would probably be true if Puerto Rico became a state today. Thanks to the current territorial status, Puerto Rico has had a much higher poverty rate and much lower employment rate than any of the 50 states for years. A pair of devastating hurricanes in the fall of 2017 shut down some ten percent of local businesses and created economic catastrophe for many households

When you subtract the 20 million illegals that voted, Trump did win the popular vote.

At least they can’t vote.

I still don’t understand why we dump tax dollars into that crap hole country.

We dump tax dollars into it because it is a United States territory. Puerto Rico is not a country, just like Guam and American Samoa aren’t countries—they are part of the United States of America.

Puerto Rico would be just below Mississippi on a list of states ranked by GDP. It's richer than ten other states, like Hawaii, Vermont, and West Virginia.

So it won't be the poorest state.

Much of Puerto Ricos problems stem from Congress micromanaging their affairs. Like removing tax breaks that cratered the economy to mandating only US flagged ships can transport goods and other idiotic rules that a real state have to follow.

And yes corruption has its role too, but all states have corruption...just look at Texas.

Nope, they are lazy and want the government to take care of them, much like Venezuela.

Texas had no corruption Problem until the illegals were allowed to pour in.

Probably not since trump starved them out and threw paper towels at them...

You mean the Governor or whoever it was that had stuff stored in warehouses and let it all rot while he/she squealed about Trump?

By that standard we should immediately dump all those far right hellholes like West Virginia and Alabama which keep soaking up more than their share of our resources.

And this, kids, is why Democrats lose elections!

Republicans love welfare. After all, most of the red states take in more money in Federal assistance than they contribute.

No, the reason Republicans are against statehood for Puerto Rico is because they believe Puerto Ricans would strengthen Democrats' electoral hand. That's all.

What’s the point of owning Puerto Rico if you aren’t going to make it a state?

Either they are Americans or they aren’t.

If we aren’t going to make them a full part of the US, it’s time to cut them loose to go their own way.

Absolutely cut Puerto Rico loose. Vote to give them full independence, wish them luck and be done with P.R.

California and Illinois are looking at bankruptcy, not Alabama.

Actually, Alabama leads among the states that take in more in Federal assistance than they contribute.

The economic argument against P.R. joining is bogus.

The reason Democrats want to add P.R. as a state is because Puerto Rico is bankrupt and an impoverished territory. Anything that harms the USA is what the new Democratic Party demands.
