World of Warcraft release revives concern over games addiction

PVP is getting easier, thank god hunters are being nerfed

PVP sucks period. Hate and will always hate it... it brings out the worst in people.. have enough bullies and idiots to deal with in real life, and then also have to deal with it in a virtual world.. no thanks.

As for WoW's PoE.. 3 days from latest expansion release to end zone being defeated.

Stress brings out the worst in people, it's just more common in PvP then PvE, especially battlegrounds since no one knows anyone else.

Organized arena teams is another story altogether. Typically composed of friends and guildies, comradery makes arena much more fun than most anything else, imo.

In any event, nothing beats a guild raid on a Hord city....that's what I'm all about.

For the guild Drow, yeah. These 1%ers do nothing but play WoW.

Your typical player who has a life, be it a wife and kids or high school and a part time job, has just recently reached max lvl and won't be seeing any end-game content for a while.

World of Warcraft, which creates a vast interactive world for the gamer to explore, has grown into one of the most popular of all online games. More than 11million people worldwide are registered as players.
But the popularity of the game has led many experts to have concerns over the extent to which youngsters are developing unhealthy addictions.
Dr Richard Graham, a child psychiatrist at the Tavistock Centre, said: "Some of my clients will discuss playing games for 14 to 16 hours a day at times without breaks and for those the consequences are potentially very severe.
"The problem with World of Warcraft is the degree it can impact and create a socially withdrawn figure who may be connecting with people in the game and is largely dropping out of education, social opportunities."
Some of the childen referred to him even failed to attend appointments because they were playing the game, he told the BBC.

Are video games too addictive? Should we be concerned? Maybe this is the wrong crowd to ask.

I have an adult relative that is addicted to that game....it`s his whole life..he actually spends real money to buy role playing equipment for the game...PATHETIC!....but I guess there is an addiction for everything.

I hear there are even people who spend real money on sports paraphernalia...AND THEY'RE NOT EVEN A PART OF THE TEAM IN ANY WAY!!!

It's a crazy world, bro :2wave:

We are heading back to WoW cause her sisters comp can't handle WAR. I won't give up war though. I refuse.

EWWW ALLIANCE!!!

I laughed at a dranai Pally trying to make it through the marsh today.. ran up with a train on him... said some 4 letter word and stopped by me as I was upping herbalism on my DK. I laughed at him and cheered the mods till he died.

Warhammer has so jaded my view of games.

Well first off.. Dr. Phil... should have raised some alarms.

Secondly, addiction is addiction. If this guy did not get it via WOW then he would have gotten it via something else.

And for the record.. WoW is too easy a game.

Agree that addiction is addiction and the man did agree to go to rehab. Hope him and family are doing well.

I'd say it sounds like your coming around, actualy.

You know, I tried my hand at a couple Hord toons, but 4 out of the 5 Hord races are hunched over, and the blood elf men stand like they have a stick up their ass. Wtf is that about?

The look of the characters is one of the first reasons I decided not to play WoW.

Now I find myself gameless after leaving EverQuest 2 and trying both Age of Conan and Warhammer Online. Atleast I have Fallout 3 to pass the time.

Anyone going to play Darkfall? The graphics don't have me impressed but the skill base vs Level base will be a nice change. Brings back thoughts of UO.

UO was nice. Is it even still operating?

I normally play Belf Females.

My other main is a gnome named Veldaren.

Warhammer Online is a better game though.

BE's are hideous. They are so skinny.
Human and Gnomes rock <3

I don't think so. I haven't played it in years.

Darkfall is built using a similar skill base foundation as UO. There are no levels. Though supposedly Darkfall has 500 or so skills where UO had about 100.

Did you ever play 'The Realm'? That was my first MMORPG back in the early 90s. It was built by Sierra, group that did the "Quest" series (Kings quest, Police quest, Quest for glory, etc.)

I've never played WoW and have no idea what the big deal is.

I've seen small crowds of teens playing it, I think. But maybe they were playing something else - it had some kind of playing cards involved.

They all had pale skin and looked like they had never been laid.

There is a World of Warcraft TCG (trading card game), but what you saw was probably a more popular TCG: if they were teens, I'd bet it's Magic: the Gathering (my only gaming addiction).
