Trump fires intelligence community watchdog who defied him on whistleblower complaint - POLITICO

President Donald Trump has fired the intelligence community’s chief watchdog, Michael Atkinson, who was the first to sound the alarm to Congress last September about an “urgent” complaint he received from an intelligence official involving Trump’s communications with Ukraine’s president.
Atkinson's decision set in motion the congressional probe that culminated in Trump's impeachment and ultimate acquittal in a bruising political and legal drama that consumed Washington for months.
Trump formally notified the Senate and House Intelligence Committees of his intention to fire Atkinson, to take effect 30 days from Friday, according to two congressional officials and a copy of the letter obtained by POLITICO dated April 3.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Even in the midst of a pandemic, Trump will make the effort to inflict retribution on his enemies. Atkinson informed Congress about the whistleblower, which is his job to do. So, he got fired for doing his job.
Trump is a pathetic, dangerous man. Period.

and the Trump march towards authoritarianism continues onwards assisted by his adoring Trumpkins.

Even during a pandemic, when Americans are facing incredible hardships due to the economic effects of curbing its spread, this orange piece of **** is bragging about his ratings for his new conferences and claiming he is number 1 on Facebook. Think about how disturbed a man has to be do to that.

It is entirely possible, or even likely, we won't have a vaccine for nearly 18 mos. And meanwhile vindictive Trump continues to seek personal vengeance while keeping a firm grip on a lackadaisical virus response.

We, the citizens, will be doing some firing of our own - come Nov. Trump forgets who he works for ...

He is scum and those who support him are worse for sticking by him.

Chomsky... I sincerely hope so.

Did you see at yesterday's press conference, where Kushner said the respirators in federal warehouses were "ours", "not the states"?

My God. If that don't say it all.

Can't have any people with integrity around, I mean those deep state traitors...

Did Trump describe them as "beautiful respirators" at any point?

Maybe he will need one...

No, but he did talk about how "amazing" the response was.

They have been largely front loaded, rambling rallies of how awesome they are doing...with no context of course.
Then buried near the end, Brix will reveal they can tell by the data people are not social distancing, that we are on a worse curve than ItLaly, and that all areas are basically on that same curve. It’s like an hour of distraction, then the really important..earth shattering news, tucked away at the end. The only way the public can help is adhering to strict social distancing or better. And it’s the only thing he won’t lead on. That’s, and equipment, and testing, should be the top priorities..sadly they aren’t.

He should be leading with social distancing, shaming people who aren’t. But instead he’s trying to cater to right wing propaganda that has convinced its base that the best course of action is business as usual.

See, that always my fear. The Trumps will keep a portion of our respirators for them & theirs, with "theirs" being a huge assortment of their compatriots.

Perhaps somewhat related due to apocalyptic nature of our discussion, I wonder what he did to take care of his cohorts in federal custody? Manaforte, et al? He'll need to do something to save them, if he wants to ensure they'll be around come time for their pardons.

Stone is damn luckily he managed to temporarily stay outside due to legal maneuvering. Micheal Cohen on the other hand, was not so lucky. This last is a shame, because he did seem to want to do the right thing after repenting. Now he's in a NY jail.

They've become a circus of damage control. Trump focusing the damage control on himself, and everyone else focusing the damage control on the country.

manafort and gates were indicted in late October 2017 — a month later, trump announced his Jerusalem decision — his pre$idency is replete with these distractions at times of what he views as great peril for him —

these distractions have always been enabled and supported by his cult — they give him one more thing to tweet about and fight with the media over

I had a dream last night I was talking to Trump, he was on the other side of a table with me and this other guy.
The other guy was like "how do we build these things quickly?? I have no idea!"
I told Trump you don't have to get defensive or answer it directly... *all you have to do is delegate it to someone competent*. That's it. Delegate it, you win.
He wasn't getting it, he cut me off to ramble.

Lol, forgive me im not laughing at you but rather your complaint that Trump isnt shaming people enough. The irony and hypocrisy of that notion is hysterical.

That you don't get it, is the only depressing thing I see.

It's as though you don't understand very basic things. Like, that a child would understand.

Shaming people for willfully not obeying laws or rules that are actively saving lives in a crisis: good
Shaming people for doing their duty as a journalist to challenge your bad ideas as a politician: bad

Good behavior, bad behavior. You have to differentiate that first. Since you can't seem to, you'll be lost until you do.

What Kushner said was correct and is the responsible approach to this.
As an example lets look at NY state. Putting aside the fact that they allegedly have 4 thousand ventilators in storage that they are not using, Cumo is claiming he needs anywhere from 20-40 thousand ventalators for his state that has a population of 20 million. That works out to him claiming they need 1 ventalator per every 500-1000 people. That ratio seems exagerated to me but for the purpose of this conversation im willing to accept his math.

If we use that ratio on a national scale it means we need anywhere from 300k-600k nation wide.
The feds have aprox 10 thousand to disperse to 50 states and however many territories we have. NY has already recieved 4 thousand of them from the feds. Should NY be given the other 10k too? According to Cuomo they will still be 10s of thousands short and what about all the people who dont live in NY, screw them?
The harsh reality is that the feds, who are responsible for providing whatever supplimental supprt they can offer, do not have enough resources to satisify their demands 100%

I see it very clearly. You want people you disagree with shamed for not sharing your opinion and you feel entitled to shame people who shane the people you agree with. Thats hypocrisy.

We shall see.
Fair enough. Trump may indeed prevail in Nov. We're in uncharted political waters, accept to say the country generally rallies around a war-time President. Trump's approval rating has indeed had a nice rise as this disaster has unfolded ...

My point was not with the policy itself, but with the phrasing he used, particular the word "our". It speaks to the Trump mindset, which so many of us detest.

To be honest I can care less about approval ratings. The only thing I want is reasonable performance. So far he is doing ok. Could be better, but then again could be a hell of lot worse. My main thing isn't the virus, its the economy, if it doesn't bounce back, thats going to kill more people than this virus ever could. This is why living on margins is such a bad idea, you dont have the resource to pick up, and as for MMT bull**** the fed is pulling right now there will be a point where all the money they print wont mean ****. I sincerely hope we are not there. We are on a precipice hanging on by our fingernails, and we are busy arguing about the ****ing playlist in the ipod. Thats just stupid.
