And this is just the first week of layoffs.

----------------------------

A record 3.28 million Americans filed for unemployment benefits last week as the coronavirus pandemic shut down much of the country. The Labor Department's report Thursday was one of the first official indicators of how many people have suddenly been forced out of work nationally.

"This marks the highest level of seasonally adjusted initial claims in the history of the seasonally adjusted series," the department said. "The previous high was 695,000 in October of 1982." The Labor Department's records go back to 1967.

Did you expect less? Government is encouraging people not to work and forcing businesses not deemed essential to close

to save millions of lives.

It’s actually quite a bit worse. Many shelter-in-place orders only started this week, and gig workers and independent contractors can’t apply for unemployment insurance.

It will only get worse, probably sharply.

How soon can Trump realistically open the economy back up without this leading to another great depression? Is it possible by Easter or will it take much longer?

So much winning!
It's so sad the dems had to resort to planting a virus to wreck the economy just to get Trump out of office. Their needs to be an investigation.

I’m betting ten bucks that trump will promote this theory before summer.

OK, and when (to the closest month) does medical science say that 'non-essential' stores/services such as public schools, barber shops, restaurants and bars should be allowed to reopen?

That is exactly it. unless you are in what they consider an important position
you have been ordered home. many places are putting in stay at home orders.

other businesses have shut down completely and closed. those closures have forced people
into layoffs.

maybe this stimulus bill they can bring people back on for payroll but that is still a wait and see.

Dementia Joe isn't cutting it and the dems had to do something quickly.

The risk is, if you give the false impression of safety, and cases start to go back up dramatically, it will lead to another great depression. A Tweet from our dear leader on February 24th:

realDonaldTrump said:
“The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA. We are in contact with everyone and all relevant countries. CDC & World Health have been working hard and very smart. Stock Market starting to look very good to me!”

Before the cold, flu and Covid-19 season starts. ;)

My Grand son working at Face Book does his work from his home.

My son won't be camping out this weekend thanks to Idaho Governor shutting down the state. But we can go shopping for food. Idaho has zero deaths.

It ain't gonna look good for reelection campaign fodder for Trump.

LMAO name a Democrat who it will look good for? Is this the nature of the disease? Favors Democrats?

Hell the noise the Democrats were making has virtually been silenced. No dumb ass comments from Sanders or Biden.

Irony is it is Democrats being the hardest hit. Cuomo has set the record for deaths and illness for any of the states. He ripped the record out of Gavin Newsom and Wa State hands.

The entire economy was built on sand, it’s nothing but debt and cash flow and the smallest nudge sent it spiraling out of control.

For those Trumpers who still are under some delusional impression that there won’t be a recession or worse, it’s time to face the stark reality that it’s gonna happen and the problem is so large that the stimulus isn’t likely to solve it either.

This is a once in a lifetime global event that will change history forever, I warned you two weeks ago this was coming, where it goes from here is anyone’s guess.
