Our federal government divisions -- administrative, legislative and judicial -- are sometimes referred to as 'co-equals'. The judicial, given the responsibility of at times deciding upon actions of the other two branches, has a duty to remain impartial. In today's bifurcated political world, that impartiality should extend to being seen as even-handed with regard to the Republican and Democratic parties and their alter egos, the liberals and the conservatives.
Chief Justice John Roberts would do well to consider the political neutrality implications of public statements. Failure to do so does neither the Supreme Court nor our government writ large any favors.
