The 80,000 deaths in 2018 number is like the scary headlines that tell us - Biggest Stock Market Drop, EVER Yeah, when you look at the numbers they do look scary but as our financial advisor pointed out - the October '87 drop in the Dow Jones was only 500 points but that 500 was a 10% drop where the 1000 point fall in the DJIA this week was only 1.6%.

What's that got to do with 80,000 deaths from the flu and the approximately 2500 deaths, so far, from the CVD-19? It is the number of persons infected with flu virus in 2018 and the number today who have the CVD-19 virus. The CDC has estimated that up to 42.9 million Americans had the flu in 2018, a death rate of approximately 0.02%. At this time, the CVD-19 virus has killed 2.3% of the infected.

As I pointed out elsewhere, the "common cold" is pandemic despite our methods of treatment.

It affects billions of people every year, and back in 2017 the CDC estimated up to 646,000 people die from seasonal flu-linked respiratory illnesses every year. CDC says more people die of influenza worldwide than some experts have estimated | PBS NewsHour

So why don't we calm down and let the people whose job it is to deal with this thing do their jobs?

Just for apples to apples... part of the death rate is due to the sorry state of healthcare in the country where it originated. Outside of China the death rate is much lower (I saw a report of 0.7%). I expect that will go down as we learn to treat the disease.

Surely you aren't referring to the removal of the white house coordinator position. That position had no impact on the CDC's ability to respond, and would have had zero impact on a field team not following proper safety precautions.

I'm not panicked at all. I know this may bring down our economy due to the economic impact of it all, but...even with my compromised immune system I'm still going about life as usual and yes, something like Coronavirus could kill me.

I think there is a reason that china has all of these things first.
I honestly think they use them for population control. There is a lot of evidence that this virus was
grown in a lab.

so far 72k+ people infected and almost 2k deaths due to the virus. a few years ago swine flu broke out over there.
Then it was SARS all of those killed thousands of people.

I mean it is mass murder to the worst degree but i wouldn't put it past the chinese government to do.

The response team at the white house had grown to over 200 members under Obama, expensive and too big to be effective. Trump had it cut back. No scientists were cut. Professionals at the CDC and other agencies are still in place. (Worth noting that Obama's coordinator was a lawyer, not a scientist). VP Pence has been assigned to coordinate for this emergency, so response teams have access to the white house.

And again, this has nothing to do with a field team not following correct procedures.

Facts don't care about your conspiracy theories. Best guess so far is coronavirus came from bats. Previous ones originating in China came from pigs, chickens and people living in close proximity.

Trump is incompetent. That's the truth. He's an idiot. He doesn't know what he's doing. He's a property developer who got lucky with a television show. That's the extent of his talent. I don't have any confidence he can steer us through any crisis, let alone this one.

The coronavirus may have leaked from a lab
please learn what conspiracy theories are. they are not based in actual evidence.
There is 1 biometric lab in all of china and it is in the very epicenter of where the virus hit.
