Doesn't surprise me in the least bit, just like many of these Democrats say their party is a party of moderates but it really isn't. Sure, they can try to hide the fact that they're socialists and communists, but the truth has slipped out a couple of times. How did it cost them? Simple, Trump's in the White House and Hillary isn't because they thought they could go full blown with this stuff. At LEAST Crazy Bernie is honest about it, but he doesn't know that his run will, too, give Trump the White House (again). The vast majority of the country does NOT accept this kind of ideology and these Leftists leaders know this because things like gun confiscation, higher taxes, and killing babies are NOT a popular policies. Although, their (true) voting base doesn't know this because they've been taught all their lives that these policies are without any real evidence to back it up.
Take a look at San Francisco. It's practically a communist paradise. High taxes, multiple regulations, low crackdown on crime, and poor education have led to this once great city's downfall. Homelessness, human feces and used syringes laying on the streets, high crime, and old diseases are the new norm for this place. Is their city council and mayor doing anything about it? No. Why? So long as they are getting their pay, they could care less and if anyone challenges them they go after the challengers. Of course, this is becoming the entire state of California in general that's like this. Why would people stay there? Again, it's simple: celebrities, nice weather, and beautiful natural scenery (well, what's left of it). Other than those minor things, California, which was once one of the greatest states in the US with plenty of opportunity and natural beauty, is a hole of excrement created by their government, which is ran by a bunch of communists and socialists.
As I said earlier, it doesn't surprise me Crazy Bernie would protect his comments. Communists will defend communist dictators and policy, even though, as history and current events have shown, none of it helps the people. Rather it destroys lives and oppresses them. These Crazy Bernie supporters protect the same things that their guy does, and they make no apologies for it. This has less to deal with the Democrat party as it does ideology because Crazy Bernie isn't a Democrat (even though the majority of his supporters are). This is about a guy who spent his honeymoon in the USSR, singing the praises of the communist government, and his love of communist dictators and how he envisions what America should be in his eyes: getting "even" at the people that "wronged" him. Castro represented that, and so does Crazy Bernie and his supporters.
