'What was that all about?': Donald Trump mocks Oscars winner Parasite

US President Donald Trump has hit out at the Oscars for awarding Best Picture to Parasite, a dark South Korean comedy about class struggle and wealth inequality.

It is in Korean, and has been screened internationally with English subtitles.

He asked "can we get Gone With the Wind back please?" - a reference to the 1939 film set during the US Civil War, which at the time set a record for Oscar wins but has been criticised for its racist stereotypes and nostalgia for slavery.

True - but the point I was trying to make: Why is he even talking about the Oscars at a political rally? Then, of course, there is the not so subtle reference to the "Good Ol' Days" when he mentions Gone With the Wind

Trump makes idiot statements. That's what he does. Many of those idiot statements are intended to distract from his outrageous acts, like thinking the executive branch should be loyal to him and not the constitution. This is a sharp example: After a senior U.S. intelligence official told lawmakers last week that Russia wants to see President Trump reelected, he erupted at his acting director of national intelligence, Joseph Maguire, viewing him and his staff as disloyal for telling Congress about Russia’s perceived preference.

There is no way he even sat through "Gone with the Wind" like he acted.

I certainly agree completely with your first 3 sentences. Yes, idiots like Trump make idiotic statements.

But why include a reference to the motivated statement of known liars? The same motivated clowns that warned about WMD are now "warning" about the same old bull**** that animated the cold war. Why should anybody believe them? They are motivated fear-mongers, nothing more.

Because Donald Trump knows that the people who are his most loyal audience don’t really care that much about the principles that they espouse.

They just want a strong man.

And, since they’re long used to leaders not actually doing anything for them, they’ll settle for one who entertains them and who plays on their fears and validates their prejudices.

Donald Trump speaks perfect Archie Bunker. And so does his audience.
