But of course diverting the discussion to Obama isn't an answer to my question. Can you tell us why this person is a good pick as DNI? I assume as an American you would want someone qualified to fill this job, so why do you think he's qualified?

If not, then is it your belief that because OBAMA!! that there should no longer be any standards for the highest jobs in the Trump government, that a convicted felon is just as good as a lawyer and former prosecutor for, say, AG, if Barr leaves?

I'm genuinely curious. Thanks in advance for your reply!
You don't like us bringing up Obama, do you? Hmm? So the standards change based on how you feel about someone. If Obama had held some real leadership roles in his life prior to being President, I could have seen it. But he didn't, unlike Trump. I've maintained the same standard of experience requirements, unlike you. You change with the wind. Obama could be an empty suit, but Grenell needs to be an expert. Explain that.

I tried to experience the same standard of logic reading this post. Looks like the frog jumped out of your pocket somewhere between "Hmm?" and "But he didn't." Get the frog back. He's got some splainin to do...cause you just ain't cuttin it.

I'll just take that point a little further. Let's say you demonstrate I'm a hypocrite and using different standards. So what? Does that make Grenell qualified? Of course not - the notion that me being a hypocrite is a good enough reason to support Richard Grenell as DNI is idiotic. He's either qualified in your view or not, without regard to who I voted for in 2008 and 2012. So what is your point here?

Trump names Richard Grenell acting national intelligence director

President Trump has named US Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell, a staunch supporter of his policies, as acting director of national intelligence. “Rick has represented our Country exceedingly well and I look forward to working with him,” the president wrote on Twitter.

Trump thanked Joseph Maguire — a retired admiral who has been the acting DNI since August – “for the wonderful job he has done,” adding that “we look forward to working with him closely, perhaps in another capacity within the Administration!”

It was not immediately clear if Maguire would return to the National Counterterrorism Center.
Grenell, an outspoken Trump loyalist who has been the US ambassador to Germany since 2018, will be the first openly gay member of the cabinet.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why should anyone care that Richard Grenell was named acting Director of National Intelligence? Wait.... did I really just say that out loud? The reason we should care is that this man is in charge of the day to day workings of our 17 U.S. intelligence agencies. Currently, Richard Grenell is the ambassador to Germany, he was a Trump appointee to that ambassadorship. He has been a frequent guest on Fox and sufficiently loyal to Trump. So that's it, he's a Trump loyalist, that's his qualification to be US director of intelligence. Richard Grenell will never be confirmed by the Senate, that's why Trump keeps replacing the position with 'acting' people. It's because they do his bidding, not that of the U.S.

The following article is worth a read in its entirety. Excerpts from the Der Spiegel article (German for 'the mirror) U.S. Ambassador Richard Grenell Is Isolated in Berlin - DER SPIEGEL
"A majority of them describe Grenell as a vain, narcissistic person who dishes out aggressively, but can barely handle criticism. His brash demeanor, some claim, hides a deep insecurity, and they say he thirsts for the approval of others.
"Reaching Trump requires appearing on Fox News, and Grenell seems to use every opportunity to go on one of its shows. Sometimes he appears from Berlin, commenting on the political situation in Germany and Europe like a foreign correspondent, and sometimes he is in Washington, fawning over his president."

"The American president has called the European Union a "foe," but many people in Berlin believe he means Germany when he says Europe. Trump has a strange obsession with the country of his ancestors -- with German cars, German economic power, the German chancellor. And Grenell, his man in Berlin, seems happy to be his mouthpiece."

"Many people who have encountered Grenell in the last few months believe he only wanted to come to Berlin to further his career in Washington. Germany is considered the most important country in Europe, and those wishing -- like Trump -- to erode Europe must pull the initial lever in Berlin."
The president has the right to appoint people he can trust. We wouldn't be here were it not for all the people who have tried to cut Trump's throat so far; the ones who were planning to cut his throat from the git-go and were just waiting for the most oppurtune time.

Seems to me the problems we've had have been with those with experience like Vindman, Comey, Rosenstein, Clapper, Brennan, etc.

OK, now in the Trump era, being inexperienced and incompetent in the job is now a plus. Of course it is... Why not name Diamond and Silk as acting DNIs? Sean Hannity might be an excellent choice. If not him, I hear Jacob Wohl is free these days, if he can take a break from his investigations about 'cougar' Elizabeth Warren. That was great work!

What's fascinating is I've not seen anyone make a positive case for Grenell as a good choice.
