Donald Trump 'offered Julian Assange a pardon if he denied Russia link to hack'

Funny stuff: You post this garbage and at the end of the post.... Never mind! We have to get Trump anyway we can. Another smear against the administration.:doh

Schiff and Mark Zaid should get on this one right away, demand a congressional investigation, demand every single email the White House ever sent to anyone, all phone records from when he took office and during the transition, subpoena his staff and cabinet members, and demand they appear in the basement no later than tomorrow.

Why? Because Trump could have been thinking of doing in order to influence the mid term elections by embarrassing them. America needs to get to the bottom of this and begin new impeachment hearings.

Donald Trump offered Julian Assange a pardon if he would say Russia was not involved in leaking Democratic party emails, a court in London has been told.

Why would President Trump have to offer Assange a pardon to say something he said publically three years ago?

I'm calling BS.

😂
so The Daily Beast reported this as Rohrabacher trying to convince President Trump of this in 2017 (6 months after Assange already said it publically) but in 2020 they report it as President Trump directing Assange to "cover up" crimes in exchange for a pardon. Got it.

Here we go again..... More Russia garbage! The democrats are so damn desperate now.

White House spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, told reporters: “The president barely knows Dana Rohrabacher other than he’s an ex-congressman. He’s never spoken to him on this subject or almost any subject.”

“It is a complete fabrication and a total lie,” Grisham said. “This is probably another never ending hoax and total lie from the DNC.”

From the article.

With Trump, all roads lead to Russia.

So, when are you going to remove Trump? So many tries and so many spectacular failures! :lamo :doh :peace

There have been some spectacular failures. You are 100% correct. The Republican Party has repeatedly failed to live up to its principles throughout the Trump administration by refusing to hold this thug to account.

it's a good thing that obstruction of justice isn't a crime or even a thing as long as you are orange and a Republican.

As I council from time to time, patience can be the handmaiden of opinion. It will take a while for this story to be confirmed or shown to be made of whole cloth. Any other opinion is based upon hope as much as substance.

Why? So Trump can refuse to turn over anything again?

As you well know, that would be obstruction and another impeachable offense. Congress really needs to show Trump just who is boss here. Enough is enough. He must have been thinking of election interference when he offered Assange a pardon for his many crimes. A full blown investigation is needed. Is Herr Weissmann and Mueller still available?

More urgent, given today’s news that Julian Assange’s lawyers will claim that when Dana Rohrabacher met with Assange in August 2017 about trading a pardon for disinformation about Russia’s involvement in the 2016 operation, DOJ is withholding details about conversations Flynn participated in during the campaign about WikiLeaks, including a possible effort to reach out to them after the John Podesta release.

"The defendant also provided useful information concerning discussions within the campaign about WikiLeaks’ release of emails. WikiLeaks is an important subject of the SCO’s investigation because a Russian intelligence service used WikiLeaks to release emails the intelligence service stole during the 2016 presidential campaign. On July 22, 2016, WikiLeaks released emails stolen from the Democratic National Committee. Beginning on October 7, 2016, WikiLeaks released emails stolen from John Podesta, the chairman of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign. The defendant relayed to the government statements made in 2016 by senior campaign officials about WikiLeaks to which only a select few people were privy. For example, the defendant recalled conversations with senior campaign officials after the release of the Podesta emails, during which the prospect of reaching out to WikiLeaks was discussed."

Assange has created a firestorm with the mere allegation — one already reported in great depth in real time — that Trump was involved in the 2017 Rohrabacher effort.

Except Mike Flynn’s 302s report something potentially more inflammatory: that the campaign started pursuing this effort in October 2016.

Interesting aspect of the matter involving Flynn.

Trump has claimed thru his lawyers that he cannot be investigated for anything and he is sticking to that. You of course agree with that assertion also. The GOP Senate says the American voters are the only ones who can determine if Trump is a crook too. So what is the point? We have no authority that can do anything no matter what Trump does. In other words he is King.

"There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump.” Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.)

You could post this and at the end say "Never mind!" Trump could shoot someone on 5th Ave because Republican presidents are above the law."

"There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump.” Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.)

Yes. Here's a more complete accounting of this incident:

A month before Donald Trump clinched the Republican nomination, one of his closest allies in Congress — House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy — made a politically explosive assertion in a private conversation on Capitol Hill with his fellow GOP leaders: that Trump could be the beneficiary of payments from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump,” McCarthy (R-Calif.) said, according to a recording of the June 15, 2016, exchange, which was listened to and verified by The Washington Post. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher is a Californian Republican known in Congress as a fervent defender of Putin and Russia.

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) immediately interjected, stopping the conversation from further exploring McCarthy’s assertion, and swore the Republicans present to secrecy.

Before the conversation, McCarthy and Ryan had emerged from separate talks at the Capitol with Ukrainian Prime Minister Vladi*mir Groysman, who had described a Kremlin tactic of financing populist politicians to undercut Eastern European democratic institutions.

News had just broken the day before in The Washington Post that Russian government hackers had penetrated the computer network of the Democratic National Committee, prompting McCarthy to shift the conversation from Russian meddling in Europe to events closer to home.

Some of the lawmakers laughed at McCarthy’s comment. Then McCarthy quickly added: “Swear to God.”

Ryan instructed his Republican lieutenants to keep the conversation private, saying: “No leaks. . . . This is how we know we’re a real family here.”

The remarks remained secret for nearly a year.

Old stuff starts falling together.

The Year Long Trump Flunky Effort to Free Julian Assange | emptywheel

Indeed, this series of negotiations — and the players involved — may be far, far more damning for those close to Trump. Sean Hannity, Oleg Deripaska, Paul Manafort, Chuck Johnson, Dana Rohrabacher, Roger Stone, and Don Jr, may all worked to find a way to free Assange, all in the wake of Assange playing a key role in getting Trump elected. And they were conducting these negotiations even as WikiLeaks was burning the CIA’s hacking tools.

I don't trust either side. It pausible to me, because it fits what I would expect of trump, but on the other hand, I think Assange is as big a liar as Trump is.

In a hearing Wednesday, Edward Fitzgerald, one of Assange’s lawyers, told a judge in Westminster Magistrates’ Court here that Assange wanted to submit evidence that Trump offered him a deal back in 2017 through Rohrabacher. Fitzgerald made the assertion in seeking the court’s permission to admit a statement by Jennifer Robinson, a lawyer for WikiLeaks, who was present when Rohrabacher allegedly made the offer.

Robinson’s statement, read in part in open court and reported by the British Press Association, lays out the offer made by Rohrabacher in the Ecuadorean Embassy in London on Aug. 16, 2017. Also present with Rohrabacher was Charles Johnson, a conservative political activist. The offer apparently was made while Rohrabacher was still a congressman from Orange County, Calif. He was defeated in 2018. At the time of the offer, Assange was not under indictment. Assange rejected the offer, and the following year, he was indicted under seal. The indictment was unsealed in April.

At least in the states, lying in that context would a good way to get disbarred and charged with perjury...

--

The extraordinary claim was made at Westminster magistrates court before the opening next week of Assange’s legal battle to block attempts to extradite him to the US.

Assange’s barrister, Edward Fitzgerald QC, referred to evidence alleging that the former US Republican congressman Dana Rohrabacher had been to see Assange, now 48, while he was still in the Ecuadorian embassy in August 2017.

A statement from Assange’s lawyer Jennifer Robinson shows “Mr Rohrabacher going to see Mr Assange and saying, on instructions from the president, he was offering a pardon or some other way out, if Mr Assange … said Russia had nothing to do with the DNC leaks”, Fitzgerald told Westminster magistrates court.

Very interesting. I think it's better to be skeptical of this one given the source and lack of evidence but something to keep tabs on.

I'm sure there is some really solid evidence to back this up. Care to post it?

No, they just refuse to act on the leftists lies and exaggerations as if they are true.

Yes, of course, because all the sanctions are so great to Putin, it's really a big help. I'm sure her would have hated having Hillary in the WH, that would have been too easy. He seems to like a challenge.
