More than 1,100 former federal prosecutors and Justice Department officials are calling on Attorney General William Barr to resign following reports Barr and President Donald Trump intervened in the criminal prosecution of Trump’s friend Roger Stone.

In an open letter released Sunday, the former officials say Barr broke Justice Department rules when he overruled federal prosecutors in Stone’s criminal case, seeking a far more lenient sentence than the potential nine years prosecutors originally recommended.

“It is unheard of for the Department’s top leaders to overrule line prosecutors, who are following established policies, in order to give preferential treatment to a close associate of the President,” they said.

In their call for Barr’s resignation, the former Justice Department officials suggested his behavior is a threat to democracy.

We just had an impeachment trial where the Senate majority leader openly stated that he would take input from the White House on how the investigation would be conducted and at least one Senator openly state that they would not be a fair juror yet voted anyway. We now have an Attorney General interfering in cases for the president as well as the president's long time friend digging up conspiracy theories and being given a direct channel to the State Department. We have multiple reports of Trump threatening anyone that doesn't toe the line and can clearly see the backlash anytime a republican politician decides to think for themselves. I realize that Trump is a republican and so you pretend to be blind but essentially blaming the House for everything tells me you might want to brush up on civics yourself.

Learn some history. Caligula's reputation was impugned by later Christians who never forgave him for his anti-Christian stance. As was done to Nero, who never played a fiddle, they didn't yet exist. The Republic was long dead by the time Caligula became Caesar. There was no Republic for Augustus to destroy. It ended with the assassination of Julius.

Get a grip, this is not a rerun of the end of the Roman Empire, as much as the chaos for the status quo has been endangered. Learn who The Just Men truly were. The wealthy hypocrites who were angered by Julius usurping their incomes from the public coffers and packing the Senate with common people instead of leaving to old money families.
