US border agents to pursue migrants in ‘sanctuary’ cities

If illegal immigrants are in America illegally, they've broken the law and should be arrested.

America has the right to control which foreigners come into the country and for how long.

Well, it needs to be amended.

Well then get off your butt and start working on a constitutional amendment that says something like

Unlike every civilized country in the world today where constitutionally guaranteed rights are available to everyone in the country, the rights and privileges set out in the Constitution of the United States of America shall apply ONLY to citizens of the United States of America and anyone else in the United States of America (whether legally or illegally) shall have only the privileges that American citizens feel like giving them and then only for so long as those American citizens feel like giving them to them.

I mean, if you want to make the US a laughingstock, why go half way?

If illegal immigrants are in America illegally, they've broken the law and should be arrested.

Interesting concept.

What would you do in this situation?

Juan and Juanita are six month old twins. Their parents (fleeing from out of control "law enforcement officers" who have been terrorizing their home village and killing anyone who does not instantly comply with any demand that the "law enforcement officers" make) who do not speak any English at all, enter the US at a place other than an official US government "border control location". Their parents are spotted by ICE personnel and shot (and killed) while "fleeing from arrest" after the ICE personnel shouted (in English) "You are under arrest. Stop or we will shoot." .

Upon what charges should Juan and Juanita be arrested and what would the appropriate sentence be?

America has the right to control which foreigners come into the country and for how long.

And where have you seen anyone saying otherwise?

And incarcerating someone without due process of law

NOPE. You can't say it's without due process of law.

People who gets arrested for a crime, are incarcerated.
They get to apply for bail (which the judge can grant or deny), depending on the crime/circumstances!

That's part of due process!

Just curious. Did that situation you described actually happened?

Anyway.....little 6 months old Juan and Juanita aren't arrested. They are taken into CUSTODY (more likely by child services).
The US may decide to send them back to their country, to relatives back home.

Sanctuary cities do not "hide" illegal immigrants from the feds. As I have pointed out repeatedly, it is about money; money that local law enforcement does not have. When the locals come across someone who's immigration status is suspect, they used to call the feds and this is what they would hear: "OK, hang onto them until we get there." The problem is the feds might not respond for days, weeks, or even months. All the while the locals have to house, feed, and provide medical care to these individuals. This is money the locals are never reimbursed for.

Additionally, local law enforcement relies on local residents to solve crimes and assist in prosecutions. If someone is afraid that if they cooperate with law enforcement their immigration status will be revealed and they will be arrested and deported, they have absolutely no incentive to put themselves at risk. This makes local law enforcement more difficult.

Now the "big threat" is that the feds will target sanctuary cities. That is their job! They will conduct their raids, make their arrests, and put people in custody, all on the feds' dime. That is what was supposed to happen in the first place.

I prefer this headline:

In response to Trump’s action... Good. Long overdue.

What did we hear from Democrats repeatedly recently?

What were those words?

Laughtsist? What were they?

Here they are:

”Nobody is above the law.”

Remember? Hypocrites?

Remember?

Illegal invaders broke the law getting here. Sanctuary cities are illegal... for there is no such thing as a “sanctuary city” under the law.

It’s time to crush these monuments to illegality.

"Elite border guards". Sounds like a nicer term for brown shirts.

This is about as anti-libertarian as you can get. Government watchlists of workers, government seaches of businesses, families and communities torn apart. I am truly amazed that a so-called libertarian supports this kind of government repression at the expense of the natural economic law of supply and demand.

I suggest you consider switching your "lean" to authoritarian.

The implementation of an eVerify mandate could be as simple as having IRS only allow the deduction of direct labor costs for employees who have a current (annual) eVerify certification to accompany their SSN or ITIN. That should result in mass self deportation of those illegal immigrants who lack eVerify certification. There is no need to search any business. Employers are unlikely to be stupid enough to pay labor which is no longer 100% tax deductible.

I would agree with you if our Founding Fathers had not expressly written an Establishment clause for Naturalization, every time the right wing rears their right wing bigotry.

Finally, after decades of cashing in on race baiting, people are no longer falling for it. African Americans, Hispanics, and other people of color are seeing a pattern. For years now, the old "republicans are all racists, bigots, homophobes, anti-Semites, etc," is old and tired, as we can now research things for ourselves. People respond to action. For years the dems have been the champion of prison reform. Trump got it done. He is righting past wrongs. Same with recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Jewish people are noticing that even though the left calls him anti Semitic, he 's the best friend to Israel ever. Every POTUS for years said they would do it. Trump did it. The immigration issue, as well, he's making headway. Especially this "sanctuary city" crap. It's lead to good people getting murdered and raped. The worse part is it's unnecessary. Elected governors, are supposed to see to the safety of their citizens. Instead, they risk the lives of law abiding citizens, by protecting criminals. Like the OP points out: "Granddaughter of woman, 92, who was 'raped and murdered' by an illegal immigrant slams 'failed' sanctuary policies at Trump event before the president deploys elite Border Patrol units to 10 cities". Just one of many. People respond to this. That's why Trump is getting so much support from voting blocks previously solid democrat. The democrat party talks. Trump acts. JMHO

Only when it involves "screwing over the Poor or minorities".

Good plan.

Jack up a bunch of Latino Americans in their hometowns.

That'll make them luvs republicans.

"Your papers, please."

"Where were you born?" "East LA, man!"

Indeed, in THEORY Mr. Trump has the power to veto that spending bill.

That would have sent it back to Congress.

Given the margin that the bill was passed by originally, Congress would then have overridden Mr. Trump's veto.

That would have make Mr. Trump look like a whining, petulant, loser.

Mr. Trump does not like to look like a whining, petulant, loser.

That means that (while technically correct that he had the theoretical power to veto the bill) Mr. Trump COULD NOT have vetoed the bill without looking like a whining, petulant, loser and, since Mr. Trump is incredibly unlikely to do something that he knows will not only fail but will make him look like a whining, petulant, loser for doing it it is not quite "true" that Mr. Trump COULD have vetoed the bill.

Given the margin that the bill was passed by originally, Congress would then have overridden Mr. Trump's veto.

Then, it would have been all on congress right?

Mr. Trump does not like to look like a whining, petulant, loser.

Nah,,, see above

Nah..... see above. It's one of those just standing for principle kind of things

Well... you said the wall wouldn’t work... and it’s working...

How could a wall that hasn't been built yet be working?

And even if Trump does get the wall built, and even if it's guarded and actually effective, it still won't completely solve illegal immigration. Because half of the illegal immigrants in the US came here legally and overstayed their visas. A wall won't do anything to stop that.

If the country actually wanted to stop illegal immigration it wouldn't be hard to do. Just impose severe penalties on companies that hire illegal immigrants. Severe enough that few will risk hiring them. If illegal immigrants can't get jobs, they'll stop coming here. But despite all the talk, neither party actually wants to do anything about it. Democrats because they want voters and Republicans because they want cheap labor for big businesses.

Correct, and obvious to anyone with a brain cell. What's astounding is that both sides hold contradictory positions. Contradictory not to each other, but internally. Sanders demonizes big business while advocating for a ready and unlimited cheap labor force. Trump demonizes this labor force which, if kept out, raises costs to big business. Both sides' positions compliment each other; their rhetoric is disingenuous.

No one in his right mind calls a landscaping company to clean up his yard when illegal day labor is available for $8 an hour. And these illegal labor gathering places are not utilized by liberals alone. Please.

The issue is easily solvable, as you state. That's why we send these idiots to Washington, but immigration is a political football, not to be fumbled by actual reform. The Democrats have the upper hand politically going for the votes. Republicans would be wise to come to some consensus on reform. Then, the votes would be up for grabs, and we could finally bury the politics of immigration.

Oh, the wall is never going to be built. It never was going to be built. If it was going to be built, Trump would have already shown the Kenyan birth certificate. I think you get the idea.

The wall works in areas it’s been built.

The wall will reduce traffic by a massive number.

First the wall... and then we will see if we can get Democrats to become sane regarding illegal invaders. Better that way than the other. We’ve tried the other way until Trump and it’s only gotten worse... as Democrats advertise for illegal invaders...

...and wrongly calling them immigrants.

they ain’t no ****’in legal immigrants... they’re illegals.

It’s easier to build a wall than convince retarded Democrat lawmakers... idiots who advertise for illegals and give them “sanctuary”.

Trump... the right man, at the right time... with the right idea... and the balls to fight for it.

I don’t hear Leftists asking... where’s the wall?... any longer. ROTFLOL

Had Democrats walked their talk of 30-years ago... we wouldn’t need a wall. But they’ve evolved... into full-on morons regarding illegal invaders.

No new wall has been built. Well, I hear a mile. There isn't going to be a wall. Trump is toying with your emotions in order to con you. Lemme guess, you thought Obama was born in Kenya.

And look at yourself. Nothing says "my emotions have been toyed with by Trump" than getting bunched up over a word. A ****in word.

THERE IS NO NEW WALL

THERE WILL NEVER BE A NEW WALL

You have been taken for a rube, and apparently you like it. SMH

You sound bitter.

Jorge Ramos claimed he also has Mexico forming a wall and paying for it too... ROTFLOL...

Trump would be further along... except for the fact he had all those Leftists trying to stop him in court and Congress...

He’s got funding now... Here... check out the progress...

Oh... ROTFLOL... I sense a frustrated Leftist denying reality and screaming about it in a tantrum...

You know I find that really ****ing funny... don’t you?

And to think... the wall will only get stronger with time. More toys to stop the illegal invaders. A Big Beautiful Wall... to protect America and its citizens.

Yeah, sure I do.

Funny how the second link says "New Wall" in the menu, but the details say the walls are replacements. Misleading.
