It would appear Barr either has actually broken with Trump or wants it to seem so.
Trump certainly likes to turn on his friends, and his friends sometimes learn the value of Trump's friendship the hard way when they try to give him advice or ask for a favor.
But it is pretty late in the game for Barr to plausibly feign investigative independence with his history, and when he's been taking direction from Trump since before he got the job.
Not sure which I find more likely. I suppose it could be triangulation related to 2020. If he doesn't see Trump winning (and he's positioned to know what's in the pipeline,) then he's got little to lose, since he'll be bounced out on his @ss about 5 minutes after Trump.
It doesn't make sense at all if he sees Trump winning and wants to keep his position.
Well it makes sense of there's the rule of law in this country. Not that Trump gives a damn about that.
