I knew it would. It always does. Didnt people attack Barbara Bush when she died too? Its one thing to attack a politician who actually has power. Its another to attack a person who just has an opinion.

I hope Rush pulls through. I wish cancer on no one. And I do give him props for finding an angle to become very wealthy by peddling hate to angry people. I also wonder if he's reflecting back to the 90's when he stated that there is zero evidence that smoking and carcinogens contribute to cancer.

Never cared for the guy or his views. But having watched both of my grandparents die from Cancer, I don't wish it on anyone. And but also, just because I don't like him as an "entertainer" doesn't mean I want him to die, figured I should probably throw that in there, in case it wasn't obvious.

Once again, no one should wish cancer on anyone. It's a terrible disease. We all hope that Rush either recovers or doesn't suffer. But we also can't pretend that Rush wouldn't extend the same empathy to others.

Your post is an excellent summary of Limbaugh's legacy. Limbaugh's legacy isn't conservatism, it's hate and dehumanization. Read through this thread, literally no one has criticized Limbaugh for his conservative views. The criticism of Limbaugh is that he dehumanized anyone that didn't agree with him. He made it okay to lump everyone who disagreed with him into a monolithic group of "idiots" that the "smart" conservatives could make fun of. Instead of listening to people with different ideas because maybe none of us have all of the answers, Limbaugh made it okay for conservatives to stop thinking critically.

And if anyone wants to disagree, start here: Rush was on the air for what, 3 hours a day 5 days a week for what? 30 years? Find just one clip of him humanizing someone who disagreed with him or empathizing with a democrat who suffered some ailment. He didn't, because hate sells. And even though it's all just an act, his listeners don't know that.
 
I find it endlessly amusing when the right wing demands sympathy and understanding from the left when they exhibit none of the same sentiments at all and support media outlets and personalities like Rush, Savage, Levin, Hannity, Ingraham and so many others with their time, money and most importantly outlook. Many of these same people call themselves Christians yet they give millions to these media darlings in the form of ratings, donations and purchasing their swag. Rush was actually given an award by Newt Gingrich for his role in the 94 sweep in Congress, he was celebrated as one of the most important conservative voices in America. Day after day, year after year, three hours a set he spewed his vile thoughts upon the nation in every radio market around. He was even on Armed Forces Radio, still is I presume. He never supported helping anyone out and in fact made a career out of scapegoating the less fortunate. Insults after insults were celebrated as knives thrown to liberals quaking in their boots that Rush would attack them. RINOs groveled at his feet when he turned on them, they went hat in hand to his show begging for mercy and promising never to contradict him again.

Rush is the grandfather of right wing radio. Sure there were others that came before him but no one had the power Rush had for so long. Now he has cancer and the right wants us to pretend we are Jesus turning the other cheek to a monster whose idea of doing the same to others is to turn our cheek and slap it even harder. No sir, I will not be cowed into wishing him well nor will I pray for him. I am happy he is about to leave this earth, I only wish it had been sooner.
