Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski came out Friday against calling witnesses in President Trump’s impeachment trial, all but assuring the Senate will move to wrap up proceedings with a likely acquittal in a matter of days, if not hours.

“Given the partisan nature of this impeachment from the very beginning and throughout, I have come to the conclusion that there will be no fair trial in the Senate. I don’t believe the continuation of this process will change anything. It is sad for me to admit that, as an institution, the Congress has failed,” said Murkowski, R-Alaska, a key moderate senator who has been closely watched on the witness question.

The lesson for Democrats in this should be the House can't remove the President just because they hate his guts. There's nothing in the Constitution about hate they need to come up with something better next time.

Why do so many of you keep insisting the evidence and facts are "overwhelming" at the same time as insisting that more testimony is needed or it's all illegitimate?

Is it overwhelming, or isn't it?

No reason for impeachment is even alleged in the articles of impeachment and there actually was no witness with any knowledge that Trump did quid pro quo, bribery or extortion. The only with personal knowledge witnesses testified he didn't. "He cost my my job, I think he's did it" isn't evidence.

Obviously, the "facts" are deniable. You have your opinion, others have theirs, and they're oppositional. It really does no good to try to besmirch Murkowski by saying that she has "sold her integrity" because she doesn't see things your way; this makes you look knee-jerk biased in that "Don't bother me with facts--my mind is made up" way.

It's really not that hard to come to grips with the idea that they can agree he did what he's accused of, but that it that it doesn't rise to the level of removal from office.

You ALL do exactly that with Clinton. No one disputes he committed perjury. You all dispute it was grounds to remove him from office. Therefore, his acquittal was fine with you, even though he was, in fact, guilty.

One need not be in any kind of "denial" to make the same distinction here. It does, however, require a degree of sophisticated thought to be able to contemplate it.
