McConnell Says GOP Doesn't Have Votes to Block Impeachment Witnesses

Not a fan of Biden but if you would get your mind out of the gutter you would know some people like Biden are not creepy. Some folks are just more physical than others.

Ironic you would attack him for that but our president has bragged about grabbing women by the ***** and has over a dozen women charging he molested them.

Yeah, sure, that must be it. He's just more physical with little girls than others..It's a shame more people around the world don't see it that way.

Well of course, the entire point of all of this was to incur political damage on Trump and Republicans. If anything this looks better for Republicans as it is showing that they are open to new information rather than just fast tracking the acquittal to get it over with.

That would only work if one thing was true, and that is 'if trump is guilty'

In case no one has posted the WSJ article, yet

WASHINGTON—Republican leaders said they don’t currently have enough votes to block witnesses in President Trump’s Senate impeachment trial, people familiar with the matter said, after his legal team concluded its efforts to counter Democrats’ charges that the president abused power and obstructed Congress....

My guess is that Bolton's testimony (if it's allowed) will not cause many Senators to change their votes, but it will make their exoneration of Trump look even more corrupt than it already does.

I forget, does Biden brag to people he just met about gabbing women in their privates?
Does Biden paint his face orange?

And by the way, what is your opinion on his policies?

Not close enough to Putin?
Supports NATO?
Supports our allies rather than corrupt dictators?
Supports expanding health care?
Doesn't deny the reality of climate change?
Won't blow up the budget with tax cuts for the rich?
Won't try to blackmail allies to smear political opponents?
Hasn't run corrupt enterprises such as Trump University or the Trump Foundation?
Believes in a free press?
Believes in America's intelligence agencies?
Believe in our judicial system?
Won't smear gold star families?
Doesn't pay off porn stars?

Yeah, sure, that must be it. He's just more physical with little girls than others..It's a shame more people around the world don't see it that way.

Well at least Trump doesn't brag about this dick size in a debate or grope women by the *****.
Oh wait yes he does!

Wow. This is a pretty stunning development. And tomorrow we may yet see the partial vindication of Pelosi's strategy.
It has already been vindicated. Look at how much more we know than we did at the end of last month, none of which is exculpatory, which even if it is not directly relevant to the deliberations, forms an atmosphere under which this trial is being judged. It was worth the wait to discover

1.That Bolton would not fight a congressional subpoena
2. get the GAO report on the clear breach of the Impoundment Control Act https://www.washingtonpost.com/context/legal-opinion-from-gao-on-white-house-hold-on-ukraine-aid/c84e9a1c-8edc-4531-8d34-c00e855d5d7a/
3. That Bolton will likely testify to Trump's expressed intent to breach the act in order to get dirt on his likely political opponent.

We did not know this stuff before the New Year.

If 75% of the country wants witnesses, and if the Republicans vote for no witnesses, how is that going to go down with the voters?

Would it be so bad to remove that a**hole? Some Republicans don't think so.

Pence. It could be worse.

Call me a pessimist but this may be nothing more than a MoscowMitch smokescreen to make it appear that there is some semblance of a real debate on this question among the Republican Senators happening. I pretty much expect them to remain true to the big yellow streak of cowardice running down all their backsides in bucking up to Trump rather than to give voice to anything that resembles a moral conscience. If they even remember when it was that they once had one.

Maybe if pencil neck didn't run the house like a damn dictator, witnesses would've been called.

This is not very likely as the White House had declared its intention to not comply with any Congressional subpoena even before the impeachment inquiry into Ukraine began. Read up on the McGahn case.

Neutered .... For now.

I agree with you that Republican Senators are cowards, especially those holding office during Trump's administration, but with 75% of the American public wanting witnesses, it's going to be hard for the Senators to refuse, no matter how cowardly they are.

Support for witnesses in Senate trial at 75 percent: poll | TheHill

Of those surveyed, 75 percent said they think that witnesses should be allowed to testify in the trial. Along party lines, 49 percent of respondents who identified as Republicans said that they thought there should be witness testimony while 95 percent of Democrats and 75 percent of independents said the same.

False. The only 'cowardly republicans' are those that lack the spine to stand up to this impeachment farce. But yes, a lot of people on the right DO want witnesses: The Bidens, Schiff and the whistleblower to name a few.

Well, I forgot to mention the additional information that came as a result of existing court cases and media FOIA requests. Much of it can be luck, because you did not know the manuscript would come in that very week, but you can have some sense for where things could head. It was an unprecedented gamble, but it payed off enough to be studied in future impeachment crises.

I mean, I thought it was bat**** insane. And now I think I was mostly wrong.

I started a thread with the specific point that delaying the articles made no damn sense. Literally my only argument in favor of it was, “Hey, Pelosi is, like, really smart and stuff. Maybe she knows what she’s doing.” Though it just can’t be argued that she could have had any idea that events would unfold in the way they did.

I don't know about that. You might be right about Bolton but I think she was well aware of Parnas.

If the Republican Senators really thought Trump's claims were legitimate they'd already be investigating the Bidens in their own committee hearings. They aren't. Don't you find that odd?

And you're scared too. If you weren't scared you'd be okay with the witnesses Trump has blocked testifying during the Senate trial.
