Trump Tied Ukraine Aid to Inquiries He Sought, Bolton Book Says

Drafts of the book outline the potential testimony of the former national security adviser if he were called as a witness in the president’s impeachment trial.

WASHINGTON — President Trump told his national security adviser in August that he wanted to continue freezing $391 million in security assistance to Ukraine until officials there helped with investigations into Democrats including the Bidens, according to an unpublished manuscript by the former adviser, John R. Bolton.

The president’s statement as described by Mr. Bolton could undercut a key element of his impeachment defense: that the holdup in aid was separate from Mr. Trump’s requests that Ukraine announce investigations into his perceived enemies, including former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and his son Hunter Biden, who had worked for a Ukrainian energy firm while his father was in office.

So here it is, in black and white, John Bolton's book to be precise. This is precisely the testimony that the republican senate does not want to hear. John Bolton absolutely must be allowed to testify after this news.

Cue the Cultist defenders screaming about Bolton being a leftist plant and a liberal, and therefore lying about Trump.

Well he's clearly a leftist. He worked for Bush and Bush thought government should be involved in medicine.

The question is, would it matter to Trump supporters?

No, but it'll matter to history, and history will forever remember Trump as a criminal who was acquitted by Republicans purely out of hatred for Democrats.

And there it is.

The Senate cannot act like this did not happen.

Jesus christ.

As the poster above you has noted, they've always been on course to the "so what?" defense... it's still there. It's democracy's necessary flaw.

But they've still got the gaslighting. Expect "he's just saying that because he's mad he was fired," and if it's on tape, "it's a deep fake. Liberal WaPo ran an article about coming deep fakes!"

The question is, would it matter to Trump supporters?

What is "no"?

It doesn’t matter. The GOP will twist this every which way. When did it become ok to profit from this sort of thing at the exclusion of testimony.

Day traders don’t worry about how history will view them...... imo

And will change the balance of power in the US.
Changed the way Allies look to the US.
No empire, and the US is one, survives without Allies

You know the answer to that one. Like he said he could shoot someone on 5th Ave. and his supporters wouldn't blink an eye.

Yeah but this is nixon bad.

He needs to resign.

Unlike Nixon he has no shame and is an unabashed narcissist. He would never resign. It won't matter, the Senate won't convict him.

This is beyond unacceptable though. To me the evidence has proved it all already but coming from bolton is something else.

Nixon was constrained in the sense that he didn't have a propaganda outlet to defend him no matter what. The truth of what he was doing was able to drill down to the public. Also, his base wasn't populist.

History will remember that the Democrats impeached Trump purely out of hatred for him.

... will history remember that every person who has so far incriminated Trump in a crime was either a Republican or a Republican donor?
