Trump scrambles after accidentally sharing Social Security plan

wait, people didn't already know that Republicans wanted to let the rich raid SS, Medicare, and pensions while duping the poor and middle class into believing that it was "freedom?" ****, i've known that for years.

After years in which Donald Trump assured the public that he’d never cut Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid, the president adopted a different posture this week. Asked by CNBC’s Joe Kernen whether “entitlements” would ever end up on his plate, Trump replied, “At some point they will be…. And at the right time, we will take a look at that.”

When Kernen followed up, asking about Trump’s willingness to “do some of the things that you said you wouldn’t do in the past,” the Republican added, “We’re going to look.”

Yep. Conservatives are dead set against entitlement programs....except the ones they feel entitled to.

yeah, me too.

they're crushing their own kids and their kid's unborn kids. idiots.

You just made that up. There are no other quotes. None were left out.

What?! Trix posted something that had no basis in fact? Say it isn't so! I'm so disillusioned....

maybe, if they win. of course, they're pretty good at pretending that getting pissed on is fun as long as it pisses off the lib standing next to them.

His African American filter bursts and he blurts out "black".

I'm literally laughing. trix posted Trump's word salad trying to demonstrate that Trump said something different than what was reported, but all the reporter did was translate salad into English. Most of the rest of it was incomprehensible.

Fixed it. I think your autocorrupt was on...
Of course, if you read the Steele dossier, one understands that Trump has a particular thing about pissing...

i've never met another group of people, and i know because a ton of them are 2nd and 3rd cousins in my and my wife's families, who just sit around and actually enjoy watching people hurt. they aren't Christians. hell, they aren't even decent humans.

but the joke is on them. this era of harmful politics will affect them and their progeny.

What he said if the economy goes up he'll consider raising social security, disability, medicare and medicaid. Of course, as a Democrat it is literally UNTHINKABLE to not eliminate entitlements by the slow death of inflation.

During an interview in Davos...

JOE KERNEN: Do I dare-- one last question.

PRESIDENT TRUMP: Go ahead.

JOE KERNEN: Entitlements ever be on your plate?

PRESIDENT TRUMP: At some point they will be. We have tremendous growth. We're going to have tremendous growth. This next year I-- it'll be toward the end of the year. The growth is going to be incredible. And at the right time, we will take a look at that. You know, that's actually the easiest of all things, if you look, cause it's such a--

JOE KERNEN: If you're willing--

PRESIDENT TRUMP: --big percentage.

JOE KERNEN: --to do some of the things that you said you wouldn't do in the past, though, in terms of Medicare--

PRESIDENT TRUMP: Well, we're going-- we're going look. We also have-- assets that we've never had. I mean we've never had growth like this. We never had a consumer that was taking in, through-- different means, over $10,000 a family. We never had the kind of-- the kind of things that we have. Look, our country is the hottest in the world. We have the hottest economy in the world. We have the best unemployment numbers we've ever had. African American, Asian American. Hispanics are doing so incredibly. Best they've ever done. Black. Best they've ever done. African American. The numbers are incredible. The poverty numbers. The unemployment and the employment. There's-- there is a difference, actually. But the unemployment and employment numbers for African Americans are the best we've ever had. You know, we just-- came up with a chart, and it was a very important to number to me. African American youth has the highest, by far, unemployment. The best unemployment numbers that they've ever had. And the best employment numbers. Right now we have almost 160 million people working in the United States, and we've never even been close to that, Joe.

What are these "assets like we never had" when we are racking up record rate deficits and growth remains essentially unchanged from the Obama years? What about his VOW to protect Medicare and Social Security?

Social Security is paid into by American taxpayers. It's not an "entitlement plan" like welfare no matter what BS spews from the mouth or thumbs of Dear Leader even though there are entitlement aspects of it. In short: Social Security is a different animal than most Federal entitlement programs.

Additionally, any Senator or Representative who votes to eliminate Social Security is going to have a very rough reelection campaign.

This is typical GOP. Cut taxes for the wealthy and cut entitlement programs. Anyone who thought Trump was a different kind of Republican is fooling themselves.

Workers paid into Social Security which makes them entitled to the benefits. Please stop trying to muddy the waters.

Correct about paying into Social Security. Why are you falsely claiming I'm muddying the waters?

Some facts:
https://www.ssa.gov/sf/FactSheets/aianssavsssifinalrev.pdf
The Social Security benefit programs are “entitlement” programs.
This means that workers, employers and the self-employed pay for the benefits with their Social
Security taxes. The taxes that are collected are put into special trust funds. You qualify for
these benefits based on your work history (or your spouse or parent). The amount of the benefit
is based on these earnings.

SSI is a needs-based program for people with limited income and resources. Resources are
assets or things that you own. The program is paid for by general tax revenues -- not from the
Social Security trust funds. The benefit amount is based on Federal and State laws which take
into account where you live, who lives with you and what income you receive.

I think there may be a little confusion here because your first post said that Social Security is 'not' an 'entitlement' program even though employees pay into it. The link you posted says from Social Security site says that it is an 'entitlement' program because people have to pay into it to receive benefits. So maybe it's just a misunderstanding.

Sorry if I was unclear but note I said "It's not an "entitlement plan" like welfare" in addition to stating more as bolded below:

They may feel so morally, but they are not - per SCOTUS - legally.

Social Security (and Medicare) are going to be cut. It's not a matter of If, it's a matter of When and How. If we act now, we can steer that When and How in order to protect the most vulnerable. If we wait until it's too late to do so  then it will be too late to do so.

Trump is suggesting the US government may have to make adjustments to its spending to bring the budget under reasonable control. No matter what silly thing he may have said or not said before, this latest statement shows great wisdom. If team Obama had taken a similar position in 2011 they may have kept the S&P from downgrading the AAA US credit rating for the first time in history,.
