Schiff warns of Russian attack on US mainland, as Day 2 of Trump's Senate impeachment trial conclude

And the sad thing is that they, along with their FOX News propaganda machine, have convinced their loyalists that its the other side that is playing a Partisan game. The fact that Trump actually did this doesn't even matter. They would rather sell out the country than lose their jobs by showing even a crack in their blind loyalty to Trump. We have truly come to a time in our history where a substantial number of our Congressmen and Senators are just yes-men to the Executive. The democratic experiment is in good hands.

Their world as well as ours will be turned upside down. It will be too late to protest once their health care is gone, or their social security checks are whittled down. Trump will be victorious and will rule until he dies, but he won't die until every penny the US has ends up in the pockets of the Trump family and our enemies.

Mmmkay. So when Schiff said, "the United States aids Ukraine and her people so that we can fight Russia over there, and we don't have to fight Russia here," what he meant was that if we don't give money to Ukraine, we'll have to fight Russia here through cyber wars? Yet.....you just said we have already fighting Russia in cyber wars for years now.....

I don't know why people are so hell-bent on refusing to say that someone on their side said something really stupid.

What???

Putin’s agenda is to re establish the outlines of the old Soviet Union (or Russian Empire) within a Russian sphere of influence.

He also wants to undermine the influence and power of the United States to counter his own ambitions and to weaken the EU and NATO, which stand against his expansionist agenda.

Trump is tailor made for both roles. Everything he has done as President serves Putin’s agenda.

The Russians launched their disinformation campaign in late 2011, against domestic targets. By 2013, Russian trolls were posting on American conservative social media sites, often with direct Russians propoganda pieces. Right wingers on forums like this one repeated it and spread it around. They did the Russian’s work for them on FB, liking and sharing (and in the process, expanding the growing catalog of contacts and demographic informations for the Russians to mine)

Meanwhile, the Russians invaded Ukraine.

So, the United States and Ukraine have both been at war with the Russians for some time. But on different fronts.

Right now, the Russians appear to be stuck in Ukraine in the Dombass region. This may be because the Russians aren’t up to mounting a total invasion. Or, they may be waiting for the moment they estimate that the United States is weakest and unable to lead NATO and the European Union through the crisis that would follow.

Does anyone actually believe that Donald Trump would stand up to Vladimir Putin??? Seriously?

Trump has delivered on Putin’s agenda almost perfectly. His one failure, the inability to remove sanctions, was down to his own bumbling arrogance, and that of Mike Flynn.

Schiff warns of Russian attack on US mainland, as Day 2 of Trump'''s Senate impeachment trial concludes | Fox News

This is what happens when one lets their hyperbole get out of control. It makes them look ridiculous and foolish.

Time for a bit of levity in this impeachment show. Schifty needs a straightjacket. This guy is too much. :lamo "The Russians are about to attack!!! Let's remove our Commander-in-Chief!" Even if he didn't actually say that, but suggested it; he's a clown.

The only clowns here are the ones that listen to Fox and lack discernment. He was talking about a cyber-attack. They did it in 2016, 2018 and no one is standing guard to prevent it from happening in 2020.

Please people --- don't be so gullible. Use some common sense, which doesn't seem to be particularly common among the commoners.

This is why Fox news is bad for your soul. It promotes hyperbole, which too many have no filter for, making them look ridiculous and foolish as do the first half dozen posters to this thread.

Wait, you think:

the United States aids Ukraine and her people so that we can fight Russia over there, and we don't have to fight Russia here

Refers to cyberattacks?

Do you agree with his statement being discussed here?

"...the United States aids Ukraine and her people so that we can fight Russia over there, and we don't have to fight Russia here," ...

His past voting record shows that he was OK with fighting Iraq over there.

...he supported the 2002 authorization for use of force in Iraq and voted for the Patriot Act. The Patriot Act expanded law enforcement's ability to surveil Americans with the goal of preventing more terrorist attacks. But the privacy infringements outraged civil libertarians. Schiff grew more traditionally liberal, as his district did.

I wonder if he voted to send Ukraine military aid during the Obama years, or was he OK with just sending them blankets and meals?

How typically stupid and hyperpartisan, ludin: he didn't say it or anything like it. American lied.

Nothing new there. From the time he wakes up, till he falls asleep, he is out of his depth

He must hold a record for drowning threads with misinformation and lies

Well, I guess you think it means "cyberattacks."

In this particular case, Ukraine is a vital part of keeping Russia in check. Its important for the West to ensure the strength of the Ukraine so that Russia is never tempted to invade Ukraine, which though is not a NATO country, we have a sworn to protect them. Tempting Russia by weakening Ukraine does compromise US security by putting us in the role to physically protect them, hence the statement. Schiff was illuminating the dangers to US security that were a consequence of Trump's actions.

I was actually looking for the video of the actual statement that Schiff made. Curiously, the only references to it are on FOX news, some type of Russia video and very fringe websites. This is clearly political porn.

Do you really not understand what that means?

That makes no sense. According to you, Schiff says if we don't aid Ukraine, then Russia will cyber-attack the US. Except...… we have been giving aid to Ukraine and Russia still cyber-attacked us. So, no, that's not what Schiff was talking about. He is making a prediction of the future --- if Trump doesn't give aid to Ukraine, we will fight Russia on our own soil. Which any clear-thinking, intelligent, non-partisan should say is very silly.

So...a couple seconds later he's not talking about cyberattacks on the US? Make up your mind.

Cyber war is on your soil

That's nothing new for American.

In the beginning I think Democrats really believed that the snowball would start rolling. Their poker hand was mediocre and they felt that if they drew three cards they would have a good hand. Instead, they got **** cards and are now trying to beat Trump at his own game - a reality show.

To put it another way, it was a stacked deck against Trump in the House, a stacked deck for Trump in the senate.

The public is tired of impeachment.

Yeah, I call it impeachment fatigue. You had only 11 million viewers that tuned in to watch part or some of the trial. The trial was available on six different stations. I do think most folks thought all this would end with the Mueller report. But the democrats wouldn't let it, thus now impeachment fatigue has set in.

Once the WB info came out, she had no choice

You lost me on the WB info. By she I assume you're referring to Speaker Pelosi. I think Pelosi was facing a revolt from her base if she didn't proceed with impeaching Trump. She really in my opinion didn't have a choice although I'm sure she would have preferred not to. Pelosi is political savvy enough to realize impeachment might backfire and help Trump in the end come November. I think it has been basically a wash in that, for now anyway. We really won't know until a couple of weeks after the trial ends.

According to the numbers impeachment may have helped Trump a wee bit in his reelection. But impeachment seems to have helped the democrats in a couple to three senate races. Time will tell.

Apologies- WB= Whistle blower complaint- when the facts started coming out.

Pelosi in my mind had no choice

She had reined the party left in, performed excellent balancing of the Caucus concerns and issues

If she did not support Impeachment she would be pilloried by the left in the press, and that is all politically downside

I think she has done an amazing job

Why did Obama sit back with his thumb in his ass while Russia invaded Ukraine?

I agree Pelosi didn't have a choice although I think she'd preferred not to. Impeachment is purely a political process. Whether in the end that political process ends up giving the democrats a political advantage in November or diminishes their chances remains to be seen.

Went from political to deeply partisan
Nixon when more info came out, the Saturday Night Massacre, Deans testifying, tapes if i recall ordered to be released, Nixon had no choice but resign as he knew it was up and did not want the stain of Impeachment, and support had cratered in the R party

From then till now the political landscape in the US has sharply divided the nation

IMHO- Clinton's Impeachment was another major tipping point, when after nearly 5 years of investigations, all they had was a man lying about an extra marital affair. Now that in itself is not rare.

Not many Husbands come home walk in the door and yell, Honey I was just out cheating on you. Whats for supper?

You are correct- As to how this plays out in the 2020, only time will tell

Oh bravo!

I've watched nearly all of the first three days of the Senate trial, and I actually heard the entire presentation Schiff made, in context. I doubt the conservatives in this thread mocking the process have watched more than ten minutes of it, and those minutes were probably selected clips by a conservative news organization.

If what Trump did isn't impeachable, nothing is. Seriously. If a democrat had blackmailed a desperate ally in a shooting war by insisting the new Reform President lie to the world with fake investigations that benefit only Trump's personal re-election campaign and Putin's fabricated conspiracy theory, then announced to the world that basically he was open to any information any other country had that could help him cheat a win in the election, the GOP would be jumping out of their collective skins. But if their guy does it, no biggie.

Well, I've been watching; it IS a biggie, and History will point to this as a shameful time, when much of the country forgot what democracy really means.

This thread is utterly pathetic, fueled by people who don't have a clue what has actually gone on for the past three days, unless they saw a few 30-second cherry-picked clips on Fox. Shameful, really shameful. I remember when we were all Americans first, and political ideologies came second. I never thought I'd live to see this, and part of me wishes I hadn't.
