Listen, Clinton testified and his testimony for the Grand Jury was used as evidence in his impeachment, and don't try telling me again that I don't know what I'm talking about. Clinton was impeached for the testimony he gave under oath to the Grand Jury, his lying about have extramarital sex is what got him impeached and all from his testimony!!

It's setting precedent for the future. If Trump establishes complete presidential immunity for himself, then every other president can do the same, and future presidents will also lobby foreign governments for political favors; that jeopardizes not only our "free and fair elections", it also jeopardizes national security.

Now we're seeing a cover-up disguised as a Senate Impeachment Trial, where several senators are on record as working with the "defendant" and have announced they are not impartial jurors. Now we discover that McConnell won't allow the house prosecutors to reference any evidence secured during the House Impeachment Hearings! WTF? How can any prosecutor have an opening statement without being allowed to discuss the evidence it has already gathered?? It's insane.

You can't really be okay with this, Jack; apathetic and sick to death of it, perhaps, but you must actually recognize what horrible precedent this sets for our future as a country.

The proposal also suggests that none of the evidence collected as part of the House's impeachment inquiry will be admitted automatically. Not only are the Republicans are trying to engineer a trial that will exclude new witnesses, apparently they are also trying to engineer a trial that will exclude all previous evidence collected by the House.

HumblePi is right; this is basically a scam by Moscow Mitch to pretend that the Senate is going to ignore the House Impeachment Committee's more than a dozen witnesses, pretend they do not exist, dismiss and ignore the documented testimony of over a dozen witnesses under oath in front of the House Intelligence Committee.

I'm old, I've had a long life. I have never been so completely and utterly horrified by the behavior of my government in its attempt to support an illegal violation of "executive power", aka "Trump can do anything he wants to do, no matter what".

This is beyond Trump and his idiotic claim to legendary power; this is the first step to America's movement to fascism, ala Hitler's behavior and declaration. Who does Trump want to assassinate/destroy to keep America's "white majority" pure? OMG, cannot Americans see what has been happening the past three years? This president has tried to ban all Muslims. all non-Christians, all refugees from M/E non-Christian nations from immigrating to the US.

This is one of the most off-the-wall posts I've seen. Virtually nothing you say can be substantiated -- it's all just fearmongering -- it has no basis in reality.

If you really believe all of what you wrote -- I feel sorry for you. Quit listening to the media and quit internalizing sensationalism. Our nation is just fine -- Trump has done nothing most, if not all, presidents before him have done with impunity. The only reason the democrats impeached Trump is because they have no one that can beat him. It's purely political.

Technically, yes. More accurately, Southern conservatives did. Which is why the Confederate Flag is almost exclusively celebrated by voters who support Trump and is loathed by liberals and progressives. The Democratic Party is not an ideology, it’s a vehicle for a political platform. The parities definitely did switch voters. Black voters used to overwhelmingly support Republicans, for example. Democrats didn’t “fool” them with “free stuff” (a racist trope). The parties adopted different platforms which appealed to different voters, especially during and after the Civil Rights era.

I totally disagree with your assessment of what is really happening here and why.
 
The problem here is the Democrats House did not allow the President an opportunity to make a defense and call witnesses. They rigged the impeachment process. If they had been fair, this would be over already. This is why they had to cheat. Everyone knows they cheated. The real complaint of Schumer is a fair fight in the Senate is lost fight for the Democrats.

The main reason Trump talked to Ukraine was connected to Biden being caught on video bragging about his quid pro quo with Ukraine, where he threatened to withhold $billion in aid if someone did not get the ax. Although though this was corrupt by itself, the worse problem it created for Biden, was it made Biden vulnerable to foreign blackmail, if he was to become president. The Democrats have stressed how terrible Russian Collusion is. Biden could become Putin's puppet, as a quid pro quo, for Putin to keep this quiet. The Russians know everything the Ukrainian do, and Trump needed to investigate for the security of the USA. This is what good presidents do. You don't impeach a president for defending the country from black mail unless you are part of a conspiracy.

Trump would have been willing to keep Biden indiscretion on the hush-hush, but the Democrats made such a big stink to cover up, that the truth has to come out in order to defend to president from misunderstanding. It may be in the national interest to interrogate Biden, publicly, thereby neutralizing possible blackmail by Putin. If all the dirt is out there is no leverage for blackmail and a Putin puppet. What other crap did Biden do, and who else was involved?

Clinton testified before an actual grand jury because he was credibly accused of raping a woman... and he then went on to engage in witness tampering trying to ruin the life of Monica Lewinsky by paying her to lie under oath in his rape trial.

Also, bitching about a trial being "unfair" to the prosecution isn't a great look. :roll:

You said his grand jury testimony was part of his impeachment trial. Do you understand the problem here? It doesn't look like it.

Um... the House of Representatives doesn't conduct investigations or hear testimony in front of a grand jury because grand jury testimonies are never in public. Trump tried his best to block all testimonies, and those patriots that defied his command had to abandon their decades long jobs in order to testify and give the truth.
