Puerto Rico residents outraged after discovering warehouse full of unused aid from Hurricane Maria

I can't help but think back to the scumbag mayor of Puerto Rico, at the height of the crisis, wearing and distributing "Help us we are dying" T-shirts and hats while sitting on, and not distributing, this actual aid she was receiving from the US government..

Puerto Rico doesn't have a mayor. Do you mean Mayor of San Juan?

The government is in the process of firing people and probably arresting them.

Makes me wonder you remember back when that happened and they were trying to do too Trump what they were doing to George Bush around Katrina. Did they purposefully hold on to that stuff so they can blame Trump?

I don't have any problem seeing them be that malicious but you should never attribute to malice what you can attribute to incompetence

What a bunch of BS. Anyone who has ever been involved in a natural disaster such as this knows they always have more aid than can be distributed. It was even worse in PR than most disasters because their infrastructure was in such bad shape. These items come in boatloads, they are off loaded into warehouses and distributed from there. The amount that comes in is determined by how much money is allotted. Anyone who thinks they can ship the exact amount of aid necessary is a total moron. After a period of time, distribution of aid is deemed unnecessary and stopped. What is left remains in the warehouses and generally local governments decide how to use it. Because many of these items have very long shelf life or are not items that would be used outside of a disaster they may stay in a warehouse for an extended period of time.

None of this detracts from the narrative that Trump has not helped the people of Puerto Rico in recovering from a major hurricane in the same way as he so quickly did with Southern US states, such as Texas and Florida. Or that Trump regards brown Hispanic Americans as not being true Americans. Which is going to end up biting him very hard in the ass come 2020.

Yeah sorry but this very much detracts from that narrative. It makes it clear he provided the aid, it's just that the liberal government in charge corruptly hid it away and did not help out their own people. Indeed, Trump looks pretty darn good on this one.

You bet they did.
It is both really.

it is malice and incompetence.

that mayor was out to make a career for herself and she found it easy to trash trump than to take responsibility for
her incompetence.

Now we find that someone in their government was hoarding needed supplies.
this isn't the first time. They found another warehouse of electrical line parts somewhere else
just sitting there that crews were fuming about because they needed them.

They found warehouses full of water and other basic essentials that probably could have saved hundreds.

that government down there is so corrupt it isn't funny. then again that is like most latin american countries.
their governments are highly corrupt. the next guy in line runs on anti-corruption but falls right into line with the rest of them.

And Leftists want government to do more...

Yeah, it's really weird to have a government help out during national disasters.

exactly. they found warehouses full of generators fuel and other emergancy supplies just sitting there while people are dying.
their government took them and put them in a warehouse for a rainy day.

they found power line parts and hardware that crews needed just sitting in a warehouse not doing anything but collecting dust.
their government just put them there.

the entire thing was a disaster because of their government nothing that trump did or didn't do.
you won't hear one apology from the leftist though.

Yeah, it's really weird to have a government help out during national disasters.

so why was the puerto rican government stuffing needed supplies and parts into warehouses and not distributing them?
reagan was right. the most terrifying phrase in the english language is "i'm from the government and i am here to help."

I'm surprised it was still sitting in a warehouse(s). They have had ample time to sell it.

how is the government helping buy stuffing needed emergency supplies in a warehouse?

Breaks your heart to see all those supplies wasted and hoarded while people suffered. The president of PR needs to resign.

Time to make lemonade

Yah, well, that would be Trump.

I don't hold him responsible for distribution/graft/corruption problems in PR - which seems the likeliest problem.

Whatever supplies are still on hand & still useful can still be distributed as needed.

If the governor of PR is sharp, she'll have put together a task force to audit all warehouses in PR - private, public, wherever located. Find any other hoarded disaster relief material, get it into a data base, & distribute everything that's needed. DR stuff that can keep & isn't needed immediately can be locked away on site - if it's secure there - against future need. Any perishables should be distributed ASAP, to anyone to has a need for them.

If no one (or agency) can show need, then perishables should probably go to public schools (public health clinics, etc.) for use in their cafeterias, or some other public agency to use/distribute as needed.

Why not? Your have to live in a certain place, to offer any opinions? How Strange...

I was being sarcastic to that one poster. A few days ago the subject of drilling for oil in the ANWR in Alaska came up and he, being from Alaska, told someone that their opinion didn't matter if they weren't.

If the Governor of PR is so sharp, how did several warehouses of needed aid get overlooked? Could it be that she was waiting for her cut?

A gratuitous slam. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Vázquez_Garced

"Wanda Vázquez Garced (born July 9, 1960)[5][6] is a Puerto Rican politician and attorney who has been the Governor of Puerto Rico since August 7, 2019.[7][8] Prior to her tenure as governor, she served as secretary of justice from 2017 to 2019.

"Vázquez studied at the University of Puerto Rico, where she completed her bachelor's degree. After that, she completed her Juris doctor (J.D.) at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico School of Law.[9]

"Career[edit]
"During the 1980s, Vázquez worked for the Puerto Rico Department of Housing. She then worked as a district attorney for the Puerto Rico Department of Justice for 20 years. Vázquez specialized in cases of domestic and sexual abuse. She also worked in the Criminal Division for the Bayamón Prosecutor's office.[citation needed]

...

"Vázquez stated she wants to recover Hurricane Maria relief funds, and review all government contracts to ensure they are managed correctly, free of corruption. She said she wants to work with President Donald Trump to help the island of Puerto Rico and its 3.2 million American citizens.[26] She stated all contracts signed by Ricardo Rosselló would be reviewed.[27] At the same time, HUD (Housing and Urban Development) stated that hurricane funds would be delayed to Puerto Rico due to corruption, and incapacity to absorb funds for projects, respectively.[28]"

(My emphasis - more @ the URL)

She has the right background, education, & she's saying the right things. Now we'll have to keep an eye on her - to make sure she walks the walk. The citizens of PR should also be keeping an eye on her.

that is usually what happens.

Ask the Podesta brothers how to "clean up" in disasters like Haiti by making millions in no bid contracts, hiring heir buddies, getting and giving kick backs, doing shoddy work or none at all, and then leaving. The Haitians were stiffed by the Podesta crime gang.

So you think the Governor of PR had no idea that aid items were being warehoused? Gee one would think that the person in charge would have some idea why a million or so people were suffering from lack of receiving the aid items that had been delivered.

I don't know. She's only been governor of PR since August 2019, & the politics of that were messy, to say the least.

My initial concern - if people there need the aid, then let's make sure the aid reaches them. Then we can go back & ID & prosecute those responsible for diverting the aid to their own purposes.

The previous governor had to resign, & I believe the question there was the poor PR governmental response to the crisis in infrastructure repair from the hurricane that smacked PR.

The bigger problem is that Puerto Rico does not have the money to rebuild it properly and up to actual codes.
they have a 3rd generation power system and the standards are up to 5 or 6 generation.
